Outstanding tonight.
If there was one outfield player in our team who wouldn't look out of place in the Villa squad, it was Rubin.
I have been extremely critical in the past but got to give credit when it's due, he had a great game.

If you play Rubin with better players and against better opposition he’s quality
Fair play Ned

Totally agree he looked class tonight

He always seems to up his levels against the better teams. Looked very classy and not out of place at all. Also thought Salech played well when he came on give their Cb's something to think about. Robbo in the first half was dropping deep on the counter attack it, which give us nothing.

For me, it’s never been about ability with Rubin, its consistency and mentality, to reach the top you have to be consistent and switched on 100% of the time. If that clicks in him he will be in a top half prem team. You can look through local football and you will see players with as much ability as any pro, but they’d rather stick a key of charlie up their nose and get pissed a few times a week.

After last night, I wonder if he's suited more deeper in the midfield.
He was outstanding on the ball. Broke up play/won it back alot, also.

I have been saying for months he is not an attacking midfielder but a midfielder who has all the skill in the world but needs to play deeper and travel with the ball. We assume these types of players are "10"'s but he isn't, he isn't unique, but he is not a standard off the shelf midfielder like Robertson, who can fit into almost any team and play his game.
Out last night with a few mates, some season ticket holders, but also those who barely watch him, and they couldn't believe how good he was

I've always said I'll praise him when he does well and fair play, he performed last night.

Seems to always turn up in big games from what I’ve noticed.

Bellers intimated recently he saw Colwill playing deeper in midfield in future. And he defo knows what he’s talking about.

I think I’m missing something, which happens a lot admittedly. He had another good game, but so did Horvath and no one saying he’s a Premier League player because of it.
I’d love him to go on and prove me wrong but I just don’t see it happening. I don’t get that we have a forward who has scored 12 goals this season yet gets slated a lot on this Forum and we have an underperforming (potential) superstar who everyone thinks is amazing again after 90 minutes.
I question his desire to play for us, as he’s only getting up for the big games. I don’t buy the ‘he be better with better players’ thing, as he was way better last night with the same players. So, why not play like that every league game?
Or is it what I alluded to in another post; that the Ramsey effect is making him a better player which I hope is the case?

I think it says a lot that Premier League fans on social media are raving about him.
Sat Mar 01, 2025 2:13 pm
His 2 best games for us have been against Liverpool in the Cup and Villa.
His problem is he's not a championship player, he needs time and space on the ball to show his ability neither of which he gets in the championship. Teams get in his face and they know if you give him a couple of diggs in the 1st couple of minutes he will go missing for the rest of the game.
His only hope is if a premier league team like Bournemouth, Villa or Fulham come in for him in the summer, he will never make it playing for us as he's always in and out of the starting 11. He needs a move to a mid table premier league team.

Because They have only seen a one off game of him that’s why, from what I’ve seen of the commentary they weren’t raving about colwill. We barely had the ball so he didn’t get the chance to blast his crosses and shots into the stands, they didn’t see that part of his game in the final third which is what lets him down so much.

Well he was playing deeper for a start, so crosses and shots don't come into it.
He did the defensive work well and when he was on the ball, he made the right decisions and had some good touches.
I have been extremely critical of him in the past but that criticism means nothing if I don't praise him when he does well.

The criticism is valid if you can back it up, which you have done in the past. Doesn’t mean he has to be praised to justify criticism.
If I was him I’d take all the criticism as a compliment because so many clearly believe he’s capable of better otherwise there be nothing to criticise. We all have high expectations of him.

At times yesterday he was running past 2/3 top premier league players and seemed to have more time on the ball than anyone else in our team.
I've watched the game back and the commentators were raving about him. It's also not a shock that other premier league clubs fans who have probably watched their own players have less of an impact, seeing Ruban and being impressed of how good he is.
I agree he hasn't been as consistent as he wants but that's not to say he want find more consistency as he matures into his 20s
He's put himself right in the shop window after that perfomance and
I'd be very surprised if Bellamy doesn't include RC in his next squad.

I’ve come to the conclusion that his inconsistency is more to do with our team than him.
Put him in Leeds team and he would be unbelievable.
I also believe he has to be in the Wales team surrounded by better players, he will thrive.

I'm not sure the Wales team has these "better players" to surround him with, besides Ramsey. He does seem to play better with Ramsey on the pitch though as I said when Ramsey made a late appearance against ? Can't remember who it was but it does seem to make a difference.

I think a box to box 8 looks like it could be his position, he picks the ball up from the back and drives forward really well he transitions us from defence in to attack really effectively, for me it's when he gets to the final third he struggles with that killer ball but if he has a Ramsey or Robertson to hand the ball to after he's run the ball from back to front i think it would make us a much quicker and dangerous counter attacking side, that's my take on it anyway
Sun Mar 02, 2025 11:06 am
He just needs to a manager and coaches to find a position for him which isn't a 10 and develop him there .It's a lot of the times a frustrating watch because you no he's better than that .Can he now do it again against Burnley and Sunderland that's the thing with him isn't it one game of brilliance in 10 isn't enough that's always been his problem. He seems to get lost on the ball at 10 always in two minds and runs to the corner a lot it's a frustrating watch at times .I think we are all itchy for him to just ignite that talent he has its there let's hope we see it each game .I wish him all the very best he could be a very good player was excellent against villa in that roll he played .

No 8 would be a better role than 10 doesn’t have the composure but does look good runing with the ball and can make interseptions and does get a foot in then he can break away and get us forward Ramsey also looked good alongside him who he looks up to and makes him more determined to do well
