Omer Riza: I'm disappointed

Wed Mar 05, 2025 12:43 am

OMER RIZA:

"I'm disappointed. The goals were not outstanding goals, I thought we were poor at dealing with the ball in the box early on. We weren't tight enough, didn't pick up men well enough, we weren't sharp enough and you make it very hard for yourself.”

"Having said that, we scored the goal which gave us a lifeline. After about 20 minutes I thought we tried to get after them a little bit more and I thought we were better than them second half, if I'm honest.”

"Will (Fish), nine times out of 10 he will score that. In training he scores them all the time. The keeper has come out, spread himself, put him off a bit and it's gone past the far post. Yousef hit the bar, hit the post, but the bottom line is we didn't pick up any points.”

"The second half they go into a low block with a back five, with a low block, to stop us from scoring and they got their result. Disappointed overall, we were worth a point there."

Salech has both centre halfs on toast but we were adamant on tossing around at the back with pointless triangles even though this better shot stopping keeper looks uncomfortable with the ball, its insane.

We kept doing it when we bought a second striker on, but Robinson was nowhere near Salech at goal kicks.

Too much look at me I am a modern coach bollox and not enough practicality. There is a group think in football at the moment and we have fallen deep into it. We will continue to be shit until we outspend everybody or do something different!!!!!

We should have been pinging the ball from all angles at Salech, especially from the wings, but we never, we tried to play through the thirds and they were just waiting for it.

Good post mate (once again). Totally agree. Salech was causing all sorts of problems.

No coincidence the two excellent balls in middle and Salech was to good for defenders who went 12 games without conceding a goal! One goal and brilliant header hit crossbar.....That should have told riza that feed Salech he will score ..

got to be more direct from the start shoot on sight and get more crosses in at every chance we get no more sideways passes !!

Shoot on sight in a terrible idea but more & better crosses is a better idea with Salech on the pitch. Not even sure you could shoot on sight & get more crosses in at the same time, need to pick on or the other.

Getting riza to put less defenders on pitch is a better way forward... but agree about salech! 3 brilliant crosses post bar and goal shows what he's capable of but we are stuck in past of not using striker to best of their abilities ..... its in all our managers dna don't use strikers we may score if do.. :o

Copy and paste this for the past 6 months. Simple balls into the box are like a free hit against us. Has to be fixed in this run in, we're too open for balls in to the box.

Been saying this for ages and did so again last night! First goal burnley player 9yrds out there was 3 players in a triangle around him all 6ft Away in equal distances ...not one of them thought to mark him? It was like it they were zonal marking no-one..... 2nd goal almost as bad but its been case with 90% of our goals conceded ......purse is a defender what is he doing as a coach?
