:bluebird: :bluebird: “ OMER RIZA UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thursday 6th March 2025

Omer Riza: “Sunderland”

“They’re a good young side; energetic, robust considering their age and playing good football," Riza began. "It will be a tough game for us when we go away to them on Saturday.

Omer Riza’s side head to Sunderland desperate for 3pts to keep the gap between Cardiff and the Bottom 3.
Sunderland have a poor home record and have only Won 1 in their last 5 home games including losing to Hull and drawing to Plymouth.

Omer Riza:

Dimitrios Goutas has held talks with the club over signing a new deal with Cardiff City, but manager Omer Riza says the decision is now in the player's hands.

Goutas has been one of the first names on the team sheet for two seasons now, having been ever-present in his first season under Erol Bulut, while only Rubin Colwill has featured more times for the Bluebirds this term.

Omer Riza says defender:

“Dimitrios Goutas' future at Cardiff City is in the player's hands at the end of the season, his contract runs out, we’ve spoken to him twice.”

OMER RIZA:

“Against Burnley, We weren't tight enough, didn't pick up men well enough, we weren't sharp enough and you make it very hard for yourself.”

"Having said that, we scored the goal which gave us a lifeline.” We have proved we can score goals, we have the strikers now and a squad that is capable of achieving a lot.”

Omer Riza:

“Yak (Yakou Meite) and Rallsy (Joe Ralls) did some training individually with the S&C (strength and conditioning) coaches, they are on their way back.”

Andy Rinomhota has been ruled out of this weekend's trip up to the Stadium of Light after picking up a hamstring injury against Burnley on Tuesday night.

Omer Riza:

Alves could be in contention for Sunderland game as he has recovered from his latest injury.

"Ollie Tanner won't be ready and could be a long way off, Dave Turnbull won't be ready.”

"They are both still a fair way off.”

TEAM NEWS:

Ollie Tanner out for the season??

Omer Riza:

“Jak Alnwick had a bad tear in his hamstring. That will rule him out probably until the end of the season. It’s a shame for him and a shame for us because he’s been excellent.”

Sunderland’s manager is Régis Le Bris, who was appointed in July 2024.

Le Bris believes in bringing the youth through their system and Sunderland currently have the youngest squad in the Championship.

The French boss started his managerial career at FC Lorient U19s in July 2012. He stayed in the role until 2015 when he was promoted to manager of Lorient B.

Le Bris continued as Lorient B boss until 2022, when he was promoted once again, this time to manager of FC Lorient's First Team.

He guided the side to a tenth-place finish in Ligue 1 in his first season at the helm, but the subsequent campaign he departed the French outfit following their relegation to Ligue 2.

At the start of this season, the former midfielder took over as Sunderland’s boss. He had a good start to life in the Championship, being named Manager of the Month in August following a 100% record.

Since taking charge at Sunderland, Le Bris has a win percentage of 48.65%, having won 18 games, drawn 11 and lost eight.

Omer Riza:

Asked whether Goutas is likely to leave in the summer, Riza said: "Dimi has done brilliantly this year. He has done a good job.

"He has led by example. I think it's probably in Dimi's hand in respect of what it looks like moving forwards. The club and Dimi have had conversations, but we will see what it looks like at the end of the season.”

"His contract is up at the end of the year. This is his second year and I think conversations will take place at the end of the season."

Re: BREAKING OMER RIZA: “ THURSDAY 6TH MARCH 2025 “

Thu Mar 06, 2025 4:40 pm

Sivert Mannsverk spoke to the press to preview our Sky Bet Championship clash with Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

The midfielder, who joined the Bluebirds on loan from Ajax in January, began by reflecting on his time in the Welsh capital so far.

“I find it nice here. It’s a great group and a nice city, so I’m enjoying it so far. The football is a bit different, it’s a tough and special league. Every game has their own challenges and is different from game to game. We have had some away games where there hasn’t been a lot of play, but more duels, then we have had some home games where we have had more of a chance to play. I enjoy the switch.

“My match fitness is coming. What I’m most happy with is how my body has reacted to playing a lot of games. I’m really happy with that. It’s not just been one long injury, but twice, before I came, so it was a tough time but I feel like I’ve settled in here and I’m really happy with how my body and my ankle is reacting to this physical league.

Saturday's opponents, Sunderland, currently sit fourth in the second-tier table and claimed a 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

Sivert:

"We played Burnley and we played Aston Villa, we were really low [defensively] against Aston Villa, but against Burnley, we had a good game, especially the second half and we showed that we have the quality to fight for points against the top teams in this league.

"We’ll go there to get points and to hope for a win. When we think the other teams in the relegation battle are playing against these type of teams, we hope and we think that maybe they will lose against these kind of teams, but I think that we have shown that we can compete against all the teams in this league."

Can't see Goutas staying and in my own humble opinion don't think he would be a loss next season, Fish is more than capable of doing a job but that would leave us with a really inexperienced centre back pairing with Daaland. :bluebird:

Re: BREAKING OMER RIZA: “ THURSDAY 6TH MARCH 2025 “

Thu Mar 06, 2025 5:24 pm

TBH I just cant see Goutas staying either, think he will want to go back abroad, shoot me down in flames but I really think his performances have dipped since Siopis left the club and his heart dont seem in it as was before, thoughts on this please.

Re: BREAKING OMER RIZA: “ THURSDAY 6TH MARCH 2025 “

Thu Mar 06, 2025 5:38 pm

Even if goutas does stay I think the future lies with lawlor and fish at the back they could be our center half duo for years to come time to trust in the youngsters, Sunderland have done it and there doing OK, we have a good group of youngsters at the club now and with the right manager the future looks really encouraging

Re: BREAKING OMER RIZA: “ THURSDAY 6TH MARCH 2025 “

Omer Riza:

“Sunderland”

“They’re a good young side; energetic, robust considering their age and playing good football," Riza began. "It will be a tough game for us when we go away to them on Saturday.

“They’re up there and deserve to be there on the table, and we have to go there over the weekend and break that spirit.

“Elements of our game on Tuesday were good, we created chances but at the other end didn’t quite keep the ball of the net, and that’s what we’ll make sure that we keep working on.

“We’re focussed and know that we could’ve gotten more from the game, and move forwards.

“With games coming thick and fast, we have to be physically and mentally ready to go and pick up points.”

Re: BREAKING OMER RIZA: “ THURSDAY 6TH MARCH 2025 “

Thu Mar 06, 2025 5:54 pm

Omer Riza:

“I think that with the players coming back from injury, the priority is that we have got them available for the next games.

"If that means that a game in between has to be missed, then that’s what it is. All of the players are important, and I think that we’ve got the strongest squad we possibly can for Luton, and the same for Sunderland.

“We have to select accordingly depending on where they are with fitness and recovery, and what we need against the opposition that we’re playing against. Every game is important, and we want to try to win every one.

"David Turnbull is back in training and has done well. Jesper Daland is on the grass running too."

I expected both Siopis and Goutas to go in January after Bulut left.

Great that we've managed to keep Goutas until the end of the season.

But it was obvious that they both only signed because of Bulut.

I agree they were only here because of Bulut.

Out of the two, I’m glad we kept hold of Goutas, he’s a lot more important to us than Sio was.

Think he will be leaving in the summer though.

I believe his inexperience continues to show.

Des,
Fair play he’s a trier and wants to do everything to please us, but this is The Championship and We can’t afford to go down and Dans won’t put up with his Defensive football and chasing games.
