Le Bris believes in bringing the youth through their system

Thu Mar 06, 2025 2:19 pm

Sunderland’s manager is Régis Le Bris, who was appointed in July 2024.

Le Bris believes in bringing the youth through their system and Sunderland currently have the youngest squad in the Championship.

The French boss started his managerial career at FC Lorient U19s in July 2012. He stayed in the role until 2015 when he was promoted to manager of Lorient B.

Le Bris continued as Lorient B boss until 2022, when he was promoted once again, this time to manager of FC Lorient's First Team.

He guided the side to a tenth-place finish in Ligue 1 in his first season at the helm, but the subsequent campaign he departed the French outfit following their relegation to Ligue 2.

At the start of this season, the former midfielder took over as Sunderland’s boss. He had a good start to life in the Championship, being named Manager of the Month in August following a 100% record.

Since taking charge at Sunderland, Le Bris has a win percentage of 48.65%, having won 18 games, drawn 11 and lost eight.

They struggled under previous manager who couldn't get the best out of the youngsters a situation forced on the club through financial restrictions ! To be fair he's had no choice but to use youngsters but it does show right manager can make all the difference while using the same players.... right manager at city will have same result I've no doubt about that....

This also fits in with what our Transfer Policy should be:

a) Buy young players for £1m
b) Keep them for a few seasons
c) Sell them on for profit

and keep investing in this manner.

One thing I have noticed with our younger players is that what they lack in experience they more than make up for in speed and that gives us the "quick tempo" that we need.

Riza does believe in young players. He was involved in youth football with Watford and England Under 17s.

We also signed Alves because Riza knew him from the England youth set up. Salech and Mannsverk signed because of him too.

Ned he does have eye for good talent when sighning players But others not enough confidence to play them consistently... as I've said he only tends to play them piecemeal that does not give them confidence .... picking them for squad is not same as playing them for whole games .... ned there is something missing that's preventing team from performing to their abilities we see it in glimpses usually after going a goal down so why not from start? If we are going to keep riza which looks highly likely he needs a new assistant purse is not upto standard and needs to go...

No good keeping them for a few seasons & then selling them on, most here would say selling good players shows no ambition.
