Omer Riza: We should have come home with a point

Sat Mar 08, 2025 7:05 pm

Omer Riza:

“You come to places like this and if you leave with a point with the league as it is at the minute and looking at their form, you’d be happy,"

Omer began. “We should have come away with a point, and it’s one lapse of concentration again with the free-kick and it’s a simple ball between lines and across the box for a tap in.”

"We don’t score goals like that, or get given cheap opportunities like that. We’re frustrated, as we had an opportunity to make it 2-1 to us. If we’d left with a point I think we would have been deserving of it.

“Ultimately, we’ve conceded a goal in a manner that I’m unhappy with, when we’ve worked so hard. We always say that when you come to these places you’ve got to be fully focussed, for 95 minutes of the game we were but switched off for that one moment and got punished for it.

“These are all games where the points go to our league tally. We’ve still got tough games to play and we’ve got to win them.”

"Isaak has been out a long time with injury. He’s worked really hard to get himself back to where he is now and with a new contract as well, so it’s nice to see him playing.

“The plan today was for him to open up; he’s quick, aggressive on that top line and he’s got a goal today, so I’m pleased for him.”

I did not realise we have only Won 1 in 9 games yet we are called negative by Riza fans who is a shocking clueless manager and keeping us in the Bottom 5 , No progress at all ( 4 Wins in 2/league games).

Defends draws and cost US points continually, are these fans on a wind up?

We lost two points today because we were f**king around at the back with goal kicks.

there are certain things a manager has no control of - like playing Burnley

But there are certain parts of the season where the loss of points can be minimised - and that is to ban these stupid free kicks

I do agree that we lost because of Riza's subs, was going fine until then.

But I expected us to lose anyway so not a major problem.

This is my issue we all know he is inexperienced but if he actually learned by his mistakes instead of continuing to make the same ones over and over again I think more people would give him a bit of slack

I agree.
For once we have a target who can either win aerial battles or prevent the defender from making a good clearance.
We must go long from goal kicks in the position we’re in.

And he was so unlucky with his shot had he missed kicked slightly goalie never saves it he caught it to perfectly ... but again was s great position he found himself but ehy font riza use him to our advantage that's 3 games in row he's down what he's about shame team mates hardly use him and hes not in rizas tactical plan.

I’m not sure I’d say you’re being negative about recent form, merely that the expectation is too high for this current squad.

We are in a hole, for some reason nobody is coming to take our “best” players. Let’s face it, they’re all up for grabs but most go for pennies to lower leagues or free.

Most of our best players have “potential” but severely lack consistency.

I see no point in getting rid of Riza now, I am confident Purse will be worse and that’s what we would get.

As for the summer, it’s more complicated. It’ll depend on what team we have, the example in the past was even Pep couldn’t get a tune out of this squad, but looking at their form I’m convinced he wouldn’t.

Can we get someone in, who can revamp the team and that’s a gamble if there isn’t money being spent, he’ll even if there is. Or do we keep Riza and hope he can learn from this season and propel us forward.

I’m not convinced he could, but the Salech purchase is better than when we captured Moore, with the right loan signings (a deliverer like Wilson) we could be lethal next season
