Is Joel Colwill actually…

Tue Mar 18, 2025 4:09 pm

As good as people say?

A lot of people stated that Reindorf was ready, was better than what we have. He can’t get time for the Gas and it’s clear he’s not as good as a lot of us thought.

Could the same be said about Colwill?

Did well in L2 with Cheltenham, not having as great a time in L1 and we know the step up is big.

This season, there have been 9 CMs who have made appearances for their clubs who are younger than Colwill.

Most notable of those is Bellingham and Chris Rigg, who is only 17 years old.

Surely, if he was as good as people are saying, at 20 he should be playing a higher level than L1.

I was told several years ago that Joel will end up being better than his brother, I still believe that.

I don't buy into the theory that players have to have made it by 21/22 or they never will. There are many players who haven't made it by that age but go on to have great careers.

But with Joel Colwill, I did say in January consistently that the best option was for him to finish the season at Cheltenham. Yes it's a League lower but he was settled there.

Going to Exeter, meant he had to start again at a club he didn't know.

He'll be back with us in the summer and hopefully he can impress the manager, whoever it is, in pre-season.

I think he'll be part of our squad next season and there won't be another loan.

But the big mistake was not keeping him at Cheltenham.

I fully agree Worcester. Paying regularly and happy. Surely that is what a loan is all about

An Exeter fan told me only yesterday, they could never understand why they signed him, they are inundated in midfield, he said he’s mainly on the bench and that when he’s come on he’s been bang average he did say he had a cracker of a game towards the end ofJan and that he started against Rotherham on Saturday and also had a decent game.

He went on again to say he couldn’t understand the signing when they were crying out for a striker, I said they should have looked at Kanga, or maybe they did and CCFC felt sorry for them and sent them Joel instead.

Colwill according to many on here will be a top player,at the moment he’s not producing those performances at Exeter to think he will be,none of the players out on loan are doing anything to make you think they ll break into the Cardiff side, when they return

Like I said today and at the time, cutting his Cheltenham loan short was a big mistake.

Fully agree, Ned

Two of the best examples are Ian Wright and Jamie Vardy; both 23, if I recall correctly, when they came into professional football :ayatollah:
