New Cardiff Striker turned down three other clubs "

Wed Mar 19, 2025 6:46 pm

Norwich, Stoke and Swansea were all rejected by Cardiff City starlet Sekou Kaba prior to his Bluebirds move from Manchester United.

The 17-year-old Guinean has initially joined with Cardiff’s U21 side, but is also eligible for the U18s.

Kaba was struggling to get in to United's U18 team and in the end there was no place at all for him.

Sekou Kaba:

“Several clubs were interested in me, including Stoke City, Swansea City, and Norwich City. But after discussing it with my management team, we decided Cardiff was the best option as I have been promised I will be going higher up quickly and fast tracked straight to the U21’s and not the U18’s.”

Manchester United had a big clear out this last 12 months and Kaba was released.

Kaba moved from Derby County to United in 2021 after scoring 48 goals in 28 games for the Rams' youth teams the previous season.

However, this season, his game time has been hard to come by this season, turning out just once for six minutes for United's under-18s.

Kaba was struggling to get in to United's U18 team and in the end there was no place at all for him.

A lot of academy starlets left temporarily while a few also departed permanently with The Peoples Person relaying that Sekou Kaba was one of the promising starlets who left on a permanent basis.

The 17-year-old ( 18 in May ) joined Championship side Cardiff City and will link up with their U21s. In an interview with Africa Foot, he revealed he had offers to join teams higher up in the Championship pyramid.

Yes Allan, thankfully we have promised to push him up the ladder quicker.

He was great at Derby but failed badly at Manchester United.

Not surprised at man u I think their standards are very high considering their policy is to have at least one in 1st team squad .... unfortunately places like man u is where are starlets end up instead of our 1st team.... but hopefully he will flourish in city's under 21s and get into 1st team squad sometime next season.... so much right at city shame not all at the club is though.

I’ll reserve judgement for the time being.

Good stats at Derby but at a young age group.

My gut reaction is that he isn’t going to be good enough.

Charlie McNeil as an example:

Was completely prolific for both City and United at the age groups up to and including U18, scoring over 700 goals.

In senior football however he has struggled. 2 goals in League Two and now struggling for game time at Wednesday.

Biancheri is the real star at Manchester United youth level, and they signed him from us.

Can see him going on to be a brilliant striker.

Of course we all have to reserve judgement on him he’s just a kid.

It’s tough to make it in pro football but let’s hope he is given support and not written off if he’s not in the first team by age 19.

I will 100% Reserve Judgement as we have seen and heard all this so many times and 90% of the time they fade away.

Way to early to Judge.
