:bluebird: :bluebird: “ OMER RIZA WILL TODAY UPDATE CARDIFF CITY FANS “ :bluebird: :bluebird:

Thursday 27th March 2025

City got a vital win on their last outing away at Blackburn, but due to only Winning 5 of their last 24 League games, this Saturday’s Home match v 12th placed Sheffield Wednesday is another must Win game:

OMER RIZA:

Omer Riza:

"Middlesbrough away, we drew. We beat Watford away 2-1. We’ve picked up points in games that people would have probably said we aren’t going to pick points up.”

Omer Riza:

“Callum O’Dowda felt a bit of tightness so it was better that he didn’t go because of the risk there. He’s doing well and is fit for Saturday. Tanner has been in non-contact for a few sessions but was in contact today. He’ll be in contention to be in the squad.”

Omer Riza:

"Blackburn was a good result. We had nine finals, that's one down and we’ve got eight to go."

Omer Riza:

“The international break is always one of disjointedness with players going off and some players taking the opportunity to rest because they’ve played a lot of games," Omer began. "We still managed to have some good days of training and we played a friendly last week. The boys have come back in refreshed and we’re ready to go.”

“It’s been a really good week. Monday and Tuesday were very high in intensity and we got to practise what we needed to work on with good morale and energy. We trained well today and will do so again tomorrow before Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Omer Riza:

“Perry Ng has come back in now. David Turnbull, Alex Robertson, Will Alves and Ollie Tanner are training. Andy Rinomhota hasn’t come back in yet from international duty. “

Re: OMER RIZA :

Omer Riza:

“All our remaining games are all cup finals , we will go out to win them.”

“It was a much needed win against Blackburn . We felt after Luton Town we had nine finals to play for the remainder of the season. One is down with a win. We have eight to go now.”

"Our mentality and our approach to games is key. We need to get the job done. The boys did that today. From our starters to our finishers.”

"It was disappointing to concede but we showed great character. In the first half, we set up with a five in defence and a midfield three to try and stay strong against a good team. We knew we had creative and pacey options off the bench for when we wanted to change shape. All of the subs made an impact.

“Yak [Yakou Méïté] has been fasting as well. So, he's played the game today without eating and when possibly energies were low. He did what was needed and got the winning goal. I’m really happy for him.

"I was surprised when a penalty was given. From our view, the Blackburn Rovers man got up and caught the ball with his hands, so it didn’t feel like the right decision. Thankfully, for us, the officials have discussed it, realised and overturned it.

"There have been other games where penalties and goals have been given against us late on that have been brutal.

"We got the three points. That’s what matters.”

“Sheffield Wednesday ,They’re a good side. They’ve got some attacking threats, they’ve got a good structure and good concepts in their game, in possession and out of possession in respect of pressing and controlling the game at times in possession. It’ll be an interesting game.

“We’re looking forward to it, a home game and hopefully we’ll have a good crowd behind the boys. We’re expecting a good game.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s manager is Danny Röhl, who was appointed to the role in October 2023

First stepping into a coaching role as an analyst at RB Leipzig in 2010, Röhl worked his way through the ranks of the German outfit until eventually becoming assistant manager six years later.

Later following Ralph Hasenhüttl to Premier League side Southampton in 2018, he continued to work as Assistant Manager for the Saints, before fulfilling the same role under Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich and subsequently the German national side.

The 35-year-old’s first leading managerial role came at his current club Sheffield Wednesday, when he was appointed in October 2023. In his first season in charge he managed to keep the Owls in the Sky Bet Championship with an impressive turnaround, having taken over with the side seven points from safety.

Since taking charge, he has a win percentage of 40.74% having won 33, drawn 15 and lost 33.

The visitors head into Saturday’s contest sat 12th on the Sky Bet Championship table.

The Owls have impressed on their travels this campaign, picking up 29 of their 51 points away from home, positioning them 5th in the division on away form.

However, Röhl’s side have struggled at the back this season, conceding 59 times, also 5th highest in the league.

Last time out, the Owls were defeated 1-0 in the Steel City derby. A 64th minute goal courtesy of Sheffield United striker Rhian Brewster secured all three points for the Blades.

Re: OMER RIZA :

Saturday will be the 77th time the two sides have met, with an even record heading into the weekend. Both sides have won 29 of the contests, while there have been 19 draws.

The first meeting between the clubs was back in December 1920, as City striker George West fired home to secure all three points for the Bluebirds in a 1-0 victory in front of 28,500 at Ninian Park.

City went on to gain promotion to the First Division that season, finishing level on points with Birmingham City.

Last time the two sides met at Cardiff City Stadium was the start of the 2023/24 campaign. Goals from Ike Ugbo and Ryan Wintle were enough to defeat the visitors 2-1 and gain a valuable three points.

The Bluebirds have a busy period of fixtures coming up, with away fixtures at Queens Park Rangers and Preston North End to follow Saturday's clash.

Omer concluded: "We put a lot of emphasis and a lot of pressure on the games that we need to win, like Luton and Oxford, where we’ve let ourselves down, but we’ve got the quality to go and win games like against Blackburn.

"Middlesbrough away, we drew. We beat Watford away 2-1. We’ve picked up points in games that people would have probably said we aren’t going to pick points up. "It was a good result, it keeps us where we are and we’ve already said we had nine finals, that's one down and we’ve got eight to go."

Turnbull:

‘I’m feeling really good. I feel like I’ve gotten myself back in shape while I was out. It was tough getting injured when I did, as I was asserting myself in the team and playing a lot, with a team putting in good performances. Now I’m ready to go back at it again.’

Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt yet another defensive availability blow, as manager Danny Röhl has revealed Max Lowe will not feature again for the Owls this season.

Lowe, 27, joined Wednesday in a controversial move from Sheffield United in the summer and has made 34 Championship appearances this season across the backline.

Owls supporters have been eagerly awaiting an injury update on the left sided defender, after he was substituted on the 39th minute of the Steel City Derby preceding the international break.

Wish he'd stop banging on about cup finals - just adds more pressure.
They're just Championship matches FFS! Get your balls out and play the matches with aggression and more will to win than the opposition - simple.

I agree.

And mentioning we beat Watford

He’s Won 5 league games in his last 25 league games

And a Win without a doubt has to happen tomorrow.

NO EXCUSES / NO IFS OR BUTS.

With you 100%. Wednesday are a midtable team, we're at home, we have to win just to stay out of the bottom 3.

Like you say, no excuses. And for once, I want to see foot to the pedal from minute 1 and not minute 46!

Him mentioning Watford is no different to others constantly talking about the Leeds game.

I also don't see an issue with him referring to them as cup finals - fans have used the same phrase.

But he needs to win tomorrow for sure. Draws aren't enough anymore in the remaining home cup finals we have.

The reality is draws (and defeats) at home haven't been enough all season, which is why at this late stage, we still teeter on the brink of League 1 oblivion.

He can talk about the clichéd Cup finals all he wants, but actions speak louder than words. The desire fight and commitment has to be there for these last few matches. We'll soon see if any of those key elements are missing.

Agree with that - it's all good talking about winning games, now need to do it.

Tough game tomorrow but the target must be three points and I hope we can play in a way to make that happen.
