" Erol Bulut says Omer Riza worked behind his back "

Fri Mar 28, 2025 11:16 am

Erol Bulut:

"It means, from the beginning, you have had an assistant who has been working behind your back.

"'Betrayal' is a sensational word.

"I always say this: If I've gone somewhere with my team, the team I built, and we've made an agreement, then when we part ways, we should leave together from there as well.

"The club might have offered it to my assistant. At least if he had consulted with me and said, 'Coach, there's a situation, the club wants me to continue (as manager). What do you think?'

"Because he came [to Cardiff] thanks to me. You should have asked me, because we came here together. We're not the type of people to turn things down.

"If such a question had come up, I would have gladly accepted it from my assistant. Because what does 'assistant' mean? He wants to become a head coach one day, that's his goal.

"But at least if he had come, asked for approval and then left it would have been more graceful. When it didn't happen that way, then, as a coach, I need to think this way... it means, from the beginning, you have had an assistant who has been working behind your back and trying to take your place.

"Well, if that's the case, it will be talked about everywhere, whether in Cardiff or other teams, as 'he worked behind the coach's back'.

"This is not a nice or pleasant thing. It's not pleasant for him, either. It's already not good for him. When the coach leaves from there, what will happen afterwards? Which team will look at that coach and in what way?"

Personally, after reading that I don't think Riza has done a lot wrong. It gones on in all walks of life. Would Bulut have definitely stayed loyal to Riza and gave him a job when he started his next venture? mmmmm

Personally, I just think Bulut comes across as arrogant and bitter here.

Riza did join him in the summer as a coach but that was after Bulut blocked James Rowberry coming back.

Riza was offered the top job, initially temporarily, and I don't think he had to ask Bulut's permission to do this.

Although many don't have faith in Riza as a manager, I think most would agree he's a decent person and wouldn't have gone out to work behind Bulut's back.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly

Arrogant and bitter I agree

I thought he was a dreadful manager, the most predictable, unaccountable, stubborn and boring manager we have had in recent years. Though I did quite like his mini rant against Tan prior to his new contract.

I want Riza gone, he should never have been appointed, but I much prefer him over Bulut despite the huge gulf in experience, and he has much more class and I doubt would have made these cheap comments if the roles were reversed.

Totally agree Ned

Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Especially as Riza was not one of his original coaches, if he had been then maybe Bulet has a point, but even then it’s a long shot.

Also I’m sure in the meeting he had with directors to let him go it would have also included his original team, otherwise they would still be here, he must be a bit of a fool if he didn’t realise Riza was getting it temporarily at that stage.

Riza and Bulut clashed from day one as Riza was bought in to enhance the attack and his philosophy jarred with Buluts slow possession approach. That said Riza gets the rep as Mr Nice guy and maybe it's not all true. Sadly, Bulut may well have the last laugh as I still think Riza will get us relegated. That Blackburn result saved him. I think we needed a new voice in the dressing to get us over the line. Too late now.

Sounds like an idiot

Don't agree with Bulut here. Comes across as very bitter.

Biggest job offer of Omer's career. Of course he's not going to turn it down.

I don't agree with the hierarchy's decision for bringing him in but you can hardly blame him for accepting.

Take it like a man and keep it to yourself. You had a fair chance. Weak from Bulut.
