A forum for all things Cardiff City
Mon Mar 31, 2025 5:21 pm
Swansea City legend Lee Trundle has offered to pull out of a charity match at Cardiff City, amid fears he could negatively affect the turnout.
A Cardiff City 'Select XI' captained by legendary midfielder Joe Ledley was set to take on an international all-star XI led by fellow Bluebirds favourite David Marshall in a special match at Cardiff City Stadium on Friday, May 9, to raise money for the Prop Appeal.
Trundle is one of several Swansea stars invited to run out on the day, with Leon Britton and Angel Rangel also pencilled in to line up for Marshall's international XI.
However, Trundle, seemingly aware of his frosty and somewhat turbulent relationship with Cardiff fans, has offered to step aside if his appearance is likely to have a negative impact.
Taking to social media, he said: "No banter at all here. I was playing to help raise money but if it affects people coming to watch I won’t play as I don’t want the Chairty [sic] to lose out.
"I was only getting involved to try and help @Health_Charity and help raise as much funds as possible."
Responding to a fan, he added: "I do get where they are coming from.
"I get stick on here and I give it back but they are thinking worst case scenario for them in the league and I’m at their ground the week after."
Cardiff's Championship status remains perilous after the weekend's draw with Sheffield Wednesday, which has left Omer Riza's men just two points clear of the relegation zone.
Trundle has been a villain in the eyes of Bluebirds supporters, having made little attempt to hide his affection for the Swans, for whom he made 199 appearances.
In recent times, he was videoed leading a chorus of 'We f****** hate Cardiff City' on a packed away concourse during the South Wales derby in April 2023.
As a player, Trundle, along with team-mate Alan Tate, landed himself in hot water with the FAW and even the police in the wake of the Football League Trophy final win in 2006, after posing with a flag bearing the words 'f*** off Cardiff', while also donning a shirt depicting a man urinating on a Cardiff shirt.
Whether he will appear at Cardiff City Stadium in May remains to be seen.
The event is set to honour Claire Nokes, daughter of Cardiff City medical director, Len Nokes, who collapsed at a friend’s home in December 2016 having suffered a cardiac arrest. It was later confirmed as having been brought on by a condition called myocarditis, and she had tragically suffered a hypoxic brain injury and would be in a vegetative state for the next (and last) eight months of her life.
She sadly passed away on October 3, 2017, aged just 26.
Sean Morrison, Gavin Rae, Kevin McNaughton, Scott Young, Lee Tomlin, Lee Peltier, Craig Conway, Robert Earnshaw, Jay Bothroyd, Michael Chopra, Fraizer Campbell, Darren Purse, Ben Turner, Lee Camp, Chris Burke, Andy Legg, Damon Searle, Jason Fowler and Anthony Pilkington are among those due to take to the field for the Bluebirds. Representatives of Cardiff City FC Women and Swansea City Ladies are also set to be involved.

Hope he plays and has some friendly banter. After all, he’s turning up for all the right reasons.

125th anniversary. Relegation and Trundle in a Cardiff shirt.
Just getting more catasrophic by the second.

Really sad that young girl lost her life and I will donate to the charity the price of a ticket. The mood at the club at the moment is so low, with Trundle trolling the fans on X because we are going down the timing is so bad. I really don’t want to be sat there so I will donate but couldn’t bear sitting through that . Once we are relegated I need a break from the stadium. Hopefully get a bit of buzz back in the summer ready for league one.

I guess City/Swansea have never joined together for a good cause?
It's not their fault we are in position we are and to use past events to trash a charity event shows City fans in a bad light and no-one seems to care about len nodes in all this.

I'm surprised he was invited considering the disrespect he has shown to us. I'm glad none of our players have behaved like that.

It’s not just past events he’s disrespected us ,he’s still doing it on social media his name shouldn’t be anywhere near this event.

Sounds like he is really obsessed with us. I think its best he stays away.

He should play, he knows how to wind people up, on the pitch and in the concourse as a fan but at the end of the day he’s giving up his time for a charity event along with Joe Ledley, a few days before they are both in Merthyr playing against the Tradies is a charity match for MIND.
If he can put “butts in seats” that’s a good thing for the charities. Get off his back, we know who to blame for this season and a lot of you won’t like this but it’s NOT Lee Trundle

And who are we to say he shouldn't be playing? I wonder what the age of people saying I'm not going because he's playing? Sounds like school play ground im taking my ball and I'm not playing with you!

It’s a shame considering it’s for charity. People need to leave sh!t in the past where it belongs, we’re all getting on now and there’s more to life.
Yes he’s a jack and he can wind people up but that was his job and still is as their fan favourite… Chops does it with us

Think of the bigger picture would be my advice to them if that was the case.

Leon Britton and Angel Rangel, both jacks and invited to take part, not getting any grief, maybe because they were both professional enough in their careers to not be as disrespectful as that scouse moron trundle regarding Cardiff city.
Mon Mar 31, 2025 10:08 pm
I wish I could bring myself to go but I can’t I’m sorry about that , if someone can put an official link up to donate to the charity that would be good

I would go just to have some banter with trundle, last time I think we had that chance was in Ninian when he played for the carrot crunchers, as long as its done in good taste I think it would make the game more entertaining

That’s my thoughts too mate. I’m too old in the tooth to be bothered by his antics from years ago.

Some of you are so soft, honestly. Imagine being rattled by Lee Trundle over a CHARITY EVENT.

I think everyone, including Trundle and the City fans, should appreciate that we are rivals; not enemies.

I don’t think he’s in the Cardiff City XI; it looks like the ‘All Stars’ team of relative unknowns

Chris if this is the case and probably right.....all the rhetoric and condemnation as been for nothing and makes people look silly by refusing to attend a charity game because someone is playing for opposition.
Ps a team of 10 unknowns and trundle?

Should get him to play for the City xi ! Would stop all the arguing then!

Tbh mate I’ve wasted quite a few of my tickets this season and not gone because of how shit it is and find it hard to get motivated to go to the ground. But it wouldn’t bother me in that scenario I’ve got a season ticket. He’s been enjoying our downfall on social media . Not just what he’s done in the past but it’s still going on today. People say about what he does for charity , Jimmy Saville did a lot for charity but that didn’t make him a nice person did it.
