FT: Derby 2-0 Preston
Cardiff City are now in the bottom three and one point from safety with only seven games left.
Updated
A big game in the relegation battle on Wednesday night as Derby host Preston.
The game couldn't be played at the weekend due to Preston's tie in the FA Cup quarter finals - which they lost 3-0 at home to Aston Villa.
Derby are two points from safety, with this obviously being their game in hand.
John Eustace's men have won their last three games, having been on a twelve game winless streak in the league before that. Preston won just one of their last eight league games.
The match, which kicks off at 7.45pm, is not being shown live in the UK but will be on TV in other countries - including CBS in the USA.

A rejuvenated Derby County are looking for a fourth consecutive Championship win on Wednesday, which could lift them out of the relegation zone.
Preston North End are 10 points outside the play-off spots but have a game in hand on all the teams above them and could still sneak into the top six with a near perfect run-in to the end of the season.
Derby have only lost one of their previous 14 home league games against Preston North End (W8 D5), a 1-0 reverse in December 2020 under Wayne Rooney.
Preston have lost just one of their past six games against Derby County in all competitions (W3 D2), although that was their last away game against the Rams, a 1-0 defeat in the Championship in April 2022.
Derby have won each of their previous three games in the Championship, as many as their previous 26 beforehand (W3 D8 L15); the Rams last won four successive matches in the competition in July 2020 (five in a row).
After their 2-1 win over Portsmouth, Preston are looking to win back-to-back Championship games for only the third time this season, after doing so in December (v Hull & Sheffield Wednesday) and January (v Watford & Middlesbrough).
Marcus Harness has three goals and an assist in Derby's last two league games, this after only previously scoring once and assisting once in his first 31 appearances in the Championship for the Rams.

The day has arrived, enjoy seeing that board once we go into bottom 3 I really can’t see where we get points from to get back out with Riza in charge.

Honestly can't see anything other than a Derby victory here. They'll be well up for this knowing that PNE have virtually nothing to play for.
Time for Tan to wake up and smell the League 1 coffee but that ain't gonna happen.

I feel same; but isn’t it ironic how we’d have different feelings if it was us playing Preston with a game in hand!

Yes - I think we've been there haven't we sadly. The meek 0-2 reverse at home to PNE last December sticks in the throat. City are the gift that keeps on giving to clubs coming to us desperate to turn around dreadful form!

I was thinking the same Chris. Hope PNE are as sh!t when we play them next week.

Bit like our nothing to play for game v Rotherham last season where we got stuffed by the crapest team in the league!

Just going to offer a differing view on this.
Derby are on a good run, three wins in a row. But that's not going to carry on until the end of the season, almost impossible.
If they lost tonight then it could have a negative impact on their morale and they could go on another bad run.
Having said that, I would make them favourites - especially as Preston will have put a lot into their game against Villa on Sunday and Derby didn't have a game on the weekend.

Could do with a Preston win tonight and then Swansea beating derby on Saturday highly unlikely though

All PNE so far. Derby look awful.

What an awful pitch? Big bare patches shouldn't be like that as no rugby played on it...

Good memory, Ned. I didn’t recall that!
Derby two up just, so not great for us right now. Pressure certainly on for Saturday!

That's us in the bottom three then.
Once in the relegation zone, it's very difficult to get out - especially this late in the season.

Derby more fight than us ,
riza has not instilled any fight in his team with his defensive tactics you have to go out to win a game for a whole 90 mins .
Wed Apr 02, 2025 8:01 pm
This is going to put even more pressure on the players and Riza.
Let’s hope for a miracle, and they all step up for once
Wed Apr 02, 2025 8:01 pm
Bloody ‘
Jack’ Yates scored the goal, too!
Wed Apr 02, 2025 8:05 pm
Just goes to show what an experienced manager can do, we would be five at the back now trying to hold on to the lead.

Saturday becomes must not lose game but preferably a win will change outlook if you assume not all 4 teams above us win ? 2 on 42pts 2 on 41pnts 3 on 45pnts...us 40pnts not quite time for fat lady to sing

No sh.t
We have been there abouts all season we have not pulled away and under riza clueless defensive what do you exspect,
cannot beleive you thought he would take us to the prem,
but you saw sense late on and credit for you for saying so.
But how depressing is this watching riza like a rabbit in the headlights when the opposition score.
