It costs if you want promotion etc

And this in the lower leagues :

If you become an owner of a football club, losses are expected and come with the territory.

Stockport County lost over £7 million in 23/24. Losses were underwritten by owner Mark Stott putting in £11m in the form of new shares. County spent over £640k on player signings.

Total losses over the years now exceed £21 million

Annis this is why I questioned Vincent Tan in the beginning.

It soon became clear he was doing it on the cheap. I was supported by my other mate Dave Jones on this. Dave Jones failed because he needed that extra support of which Vincent Tan did not give him.

Along came Malky who made it clear what he needed. Tan had to loosen the strings a bit for him BUT he still was the cheap option. Along came promotion but when Tan needed to dig deeper he refused to resulting in us becoming the one season wonders. I'm firmly in the camp if he supported Malky then we could be well established in the Premier now.

Since the sacking of Malky we have struggled and if it was not for the genious of Warnoch Tans back pockets would be on fire more than what they are now.

Yes it costs to get promoted but its costs alot more to stay there.

Whoa whoa whoa, we're remembering things very differently. I remember Malky was given one of the largest budgets in the league during our promotion season. We spent large sums on Noone, Mutch and Maynard who were all top quality championship player.

And we definitely spent a huge amount of money when we were promoted to the Prem, it was a big talking point in the media at that time. We played large fees for Medel, Cornelius and Caulker, as well as decent fees for a few other players. At the time it was arguably more than any promoted team had ever spent!

As much as I want Tan out th club, let's not rewrite history here.

Always questioned why Robbie Williams didn’t buy his beloved Port Vale.

Mega bucks or what

Glad most of us older Bluebirds seen so many great games and experienced the vibe with bovril and a pie down Ninian Park.

We need a passionate owner and board with plenty of dosh .

Keep the faith :bluescarf:

Yes he spent in the beginning when we got promoted BUT holes were there that needed filling. Tan was not willing to spend that bit further to safe guard the season. That I believe was where it all went wrong.

I always look back as to where Notts Forest was in the Championship only about 3 or 4 seasons ago, they now have an owner who is willing to invest a lot of money to bring success to the club and now he is reaping the rewards, if anybody said to me at that time that Forest would be 3rd in the Premiership I would have called the lunatic asylum and had them put in a straight jacket, just goes to show invest well and ends well.

Couple up our current financial situation... major problems.

I hope whoever got new contracts recently have clauses in them for the potential of L1. Could be a killer but also an opportunity as some of those in contract could do a job in L1.

You'd think the likes of Stockport would be a bit more careful with money as they've had serious issues in the past.

It's fashionable to spend loads of money, but not so much when it leads to the club going out of business.

The rules on FFP are looser in League One anyway (although that is changing soon) so can get away with spending more in that respect. That's how Birmingham were able to spend so much on Stansfield.

And the outrageous wages players want and agents fees just add to the fact its not football as we know it anymore its purely business :bluebird:

Would love us to be where Forest are right now, just goes to show that it can be done, we can only dream to be like them atm though, you never know some rich arab might take a fancy to us one day, fingers and toes crossed.

I am not greedy I dont need a rich arab businessman.

All I want is someone who regards the club as his baby and us supporters as "family".

We had it once. Leicester had it with Vichai and now Forest have it.

In fact I would prefer us to be a Championship side and be regarded as family as opposed to being a Premier League side where we are regarded as customers

Remmber Brian clough doing the same thing taking them out of division two before you new it they where first division champions European cup winners twice and won quiet a few league cup finals and didn’t have the big money that clubs spend today

Staying in the championship does not earn you any money, getting into Europe does, rather be fighting for a place in the Europa or champions league than staying stagnant in the championship.
