Criminal that this squad is where it is

Wed Apr 09, 2025 3:24 pm

Let’s get this straight. It’s a squad earning decent money that has had lots spent on it. Funded by sales for sure but still McGuinness going wasn’t a massive problem.

It’s lacking leaders and that’s the most frustrating part of it. Leaders show themselves when a team is losing. When things are going great everyone is a leader.

Criminal if we go down.

It's a mid table squad. There are flashes of quality in there but it's a few players off a top six squad.

So midtable and given that only 11 points separate 11th to 22nd, it shows that any mid table squad can fall into a relegation place - particularly when there's bad football management.

The most important staff appointments such as lack of experienced coaches, no footballing expertise upstairs and of course the management are why we are where we are.

We've got Tom Ramasut and Darren Purse assisting Riza, doesn't take a genius to work out what's gone wrong

You can have an inexperienced manager if you have experienced coaches but we've decided to wing it and that's what will ultimately send us down.

I backed Riza, tried to build him up as well but even I say he is a lot to blame.

But the fact he has no experienced coaches around him doesn't help.

Re: Criminal that this squad is where it is

The thing is he can't have an experienced no2 or other staff around him as he was not a recognised 1st team coach at club only people within set up get promoted someone like experienced player
Or from other departments... I suspect riza had no choice in matter due to tan ... you take Carrick at boro no experience when took over but he had experienced footballing friends to help him same as kompany & bellers .... so riza will struggle next season if gets permanent position unless tan allows him to pick his own staff which I doubt ....there is a good coach in there but needs experienced help from top flight assistant help not purse!

Met many a decent Enginner or Supervisor that when promoted to manager are shit, its a different job. Just because you are technically good when no pressure is on you doesn't mean zip when you are the main man.

He is so far out of his depth he needs a rubber ring to go with his armbands. If he is let go in the summer, he'll be around the regional level like Welsh Premier of National League South. He still hasn't found a winning way at any level other than England aged grade.

Onto the players how many of our would be sold for the championship average of £2 million quid?

Salech and maybe someone would take a punt on Robertson, Ashford, Colwill, Davies due to their age. So I think its a poor championship squad overall but is it that different from Swansea's?

Yeah you're dead right, this squad should be nowhere near a relegation battle. After Bulut was sacked there were at least 6 managers out of work who would now have us about 10th in the league looking forward to a summer holiday.

Totally agree. I don't see there being much between us and Bristol City or a number of clubs outside of the play offs. You would say they've got a more established defence. The one big difference is a manager who's built his expeirence on success in the lower leagues where ours has only had expeirence of a relegation in the lower leagues.

Saturday is last chance saloon!!! Got to get behind the team and hope the players take a lead in getting us out of this mess. We need a big crowed and make an atmosphere like the Swansea game.

As others have said, it’s criminal we are in the bottom half with this squad, never mind odds on for relegation . Nothing to do with investment (or the lack of it) in the playing squad but lots of questions about the managerial appointments.

The telling part of all this is, if we get relegated, the vast majority of this squad will leave and be playing at a standard above Division 1.

Tonight’s results have ensured we’re not cut adrift but a win on Saturday is vital now.

This squad is better than the one that started the season - From Jan onwards We should be in a better position than now .
We are where we are - All down to performance / results - Sadly :(

criminal????? we have one or two good players, the rest are obsolute garbage !!!

I'd keep O'dowda, Salach and Fish and maybe robertson... the rest are toilet!!!

The problem is we have invested largely in the wrong areas, this is telling by people playing out of position such as O'Dowda and Rino at full back.

Absolutely not true.

They are decent players playing badly.

I think we have a decent squad, definitely a mid-table team.

The amount of changes each game and the lack of a decent manager is what has ruined our season.

The fact that Bristol are comfortably 5th says alot about the quality of this division. Its poor. Which is beggars belief why we're in the position we are.

Having said that, I dont think there are many top 6 players in our squad, including the loans. Salech is the one, in my opinion. I struggle to make an argument for anyone else based on watching them this season.

Our defence are L1; and will be the reason why we go down.

Monty said there's a good coach in there? Didn't say he was.... but let's not forget his start whatever happened after that? Team as shown glimpses of what can do like sheff wed 1st half recently? And other games but for some reason he puts break on mid game! Don't want him to stay that's for sure because mean nothing as changed..
Ps don't frequent the pubs prefer drink in hot tub :D

Agreed, plus the awful Buluts poor start, and I don't believe the off-field displeasure and uncertainty helps either.

League 1 squad at best with a few Championship level players :bluebird: and a national league coach/manager

We have some good players who might be okay in another team, but what we don't seem to have is a "team" in the true sense of the word but a group of individuals who play together under the Cardiff City banner.

I think we've missed McGuinness .
We havn't got a commanding centre back.
Going back to Flint & Morrison we didn't concede as many goals from corners. They used to get a few at the other end as well.
