A forum for all things Cardiff City

Finance director Philip Jenkins stated the club are now forecasting for two scenarios next season - one in the Championship and one in League One - stating "relegation will affect every single arm of the club".
"But we all know the biggest costs are running the first team and if we are having to make savings that would be the first place we would need to look at, including the structure of our first team squad."
Cardiff board member and non-executive director Steve Borley confirmed "some players' contracts include relegation clause but even that would not be enough, so cost cutting would be needed".
A relegation clause typically stipulates that, following relegation, if a team bids a certain amount as agreed in the contract, the club must accept the offer and allow said player to leave.

So they've started hinting early, basicaly they are saying if we go down there'll be no money spent on signings just freebies and loans. We could get relegated again next season, what an utter shambles our club has become.

Whatever division we are in next season I just hope Riza is not here but I get the feeling he’ll be here whichever division we end up

It’s a disaster. Getting rid of our fit better players and young guns would be a disaster. If they do this how could they attract a good experienced manager and hope to go straight back up? They are hopeless and do short sighted. I’ve got a good idea to save money / get rid of the overpaid useless and underperforming manager and coaching team. After all if we are relegated they must be considered useless. Get rid of part time Ken and perhaps Dalman would forgo his salary for his part in total failure.

With this statement how can they justify giving 3 year contacts to Alnwick, Robinson and O’Dowda. Although I would be happy to keep the latter for 2 years.

To be fair, Alnwick's new contract was only one year and Robinson's two years - it was three years for O'Dowda though.
But this comes as no surprise to me.
Some think that if we go down then we'd either spend to go straight back up or it would make Tan more likely to sell - always said both of these are unlikely.
I said it would just lead to more cost cutting, and this just confirms that.
We desperately need to stay up.

We must do EVERYTHING in our power to force Tan and his cronies out of our club.
It's a fkn sh#tshow and we need a complete reset even if we scrape out of the relegation fight.
I'm fed up of the same cr@p from Tan/Dalman et al.
I'll always support Cardiff City (the team) but not the idiots who are making a'pigs breakfast' of our club

No it doesn't. And thats ridiculous saying we would drop to league two. Any club our size with a strong wage bill would significantly need to cut costs going in to league one. What did you expect the club to say? A lot of big earners such as Ramsey, Ralls, El Ghazi etc will go as they are out of contract and most likely we'd sell players like Robinson, Ng, Colwill etc. But I'd still expect us to have the biggest wage bill in the league and a strong enough squad to get promoted. Getting the right manager would be key, someone who knows the league. Plus some experienced heads at this level. Look what Marlon Pack did last year at Portsmouth. This is all hypothetical though. We have to stick together and hope we stay up.

What city fans should now say is ok, no investment from you so we will not buy season tickets. (easy for me to say living in scotland)

Here’s another one for both scenarios what ever league we are in there will be a lot of people walking away until the fans get treated with respect and feel wanted. A lot of the ones that don’t show up to games with season tickets won’t renew either. I can see a double relegation they will pay off the senior squad and put the youth in. With the odd non league signing. An up and coming Riza type player from Tamworth fc or something.

What he didn't say was the amount is north of £15m the difference between championship and div1 finances when most things taken into consideration... also div1 ffp is different to championship it allows for owners to put more money into club...everyone knows theres two budgets when comes to end season if club as chance to be promoted or relegated....

I find it ridiculous that you think we'll bring in a new manager, if we stay up Tan will keep Riza in place, and i wouldn't bet against him staying if we are relegated. Only way we can move on is getting rid of Tan.

So IF we go down , do NOT expect a Birmingham City style challenge to get promoted back to Championship!! And some are deluded enough to think we will be better off being relegated !!! Certainly not under the current regime!

Who knows if riza will stay? Tan could keep him if we stay up but that carries a risk that maybe tan wont want to repeat ... relegation if riza stays risk staying in div 1.... there is a lot of backroom noises not withstanding riza only had tans backing not sure dalman will just sit back and let tan appoint riza again...... as for no money easy to say no sighnings no this no that but always end up getting decent players in loan or otherwise .... anyway won't stop speculation and false stories going into overdrive .

Players will just leave for free or sold cheap and probably be back in the championship while cardiff end up in league one .
It's wrong players should be the ones to be penalised not just are well never mind forget cardiff I'm off now then buy .
If I don't wrong or underachieve in work get less pay and I have to face the music .The footballers ain't a clue

Stay up or go down,Tan needs to sell the club, bring in new owners fresh management & board, Nathan Jones in ASAP, the fans deserve better, build the club around the young talent we have brought up.

O'Dowda is a model professional and seems a really decent bloke, but he's the last person I'd be giving a 3yr contract to.

If get relegated they've got financial value if sold .. if stay good at div1 level ... better than being out contract

Hopefully most of this squad have a relegation release clause. Be glad to see the back of Ramsey, Ralls and El Ghazi. Get a decent manager and we will be ok

I don’t see it as a negative as such, a realistic approach to next season would suggest we could well be in league 1, and to plan towards that accordingly isn’t the negative everyone is making it out to be.
I would be more disappointed if we got relegated and the whole club was in complete shock, there was no plan and then in pre season they realise we are in the shit.

The mind boggles, doesn’t it?!
Some people seem to expect this ownership to do everything they haven’t done to date after a relegation that would factually leave us in a worse position than when they arrived
The biggest hit, of course, will be to VT himself (and maybe money lender Mehmet?) who has personally underwritten the club’s debts

If we cost cut on the manager anymore, we’ll end up with the tea lady in charge.
