Luka Modric is set to become a shock new minority owner at Swansea City.
The Croatian midfielder, 39, is believed to still be keen on continuing his playing career at Real Madrid, although his future at the Bernabeu is still up in the air with his contract set to run out this summer.

this seems completely random, I'm assuming he knows the owners or something like that because I don't see why he would want to buy shares in Swansea when he is still an active player for real madrid

Wtf! To become minority owner at Swansea.
It’s not about our manager.
We need new ownership ASAP!!!

Fair play looks like they got active owners doing a job

Bizarre story, especially as he intends on still playing for Real Madrid for a bit longer.
Minority owner so my guess is he won't be heavily involved, but gets his foot in the football ownership door in case he wants to go further with it when he does retire.
But I don't see it as a big story. He won't be making any big decisions for them, it's probably a very low amount of money he's bought in for (compared to his earnings) and is just a little hobby on the side for him.
It's not like he's got a consortium together to buy the whole club, this is certainly nothing for us to be jealous about as some seem to have suggested on this thread.
Their owners are not great either, I don't expect that to change because of this.

Add him to the list of investors putting in $1 to be part of the football club... why Swansea such a random thing to do .

That's enough internet for me, for one day.

Maybe a rival welsh club to compete with Wrexham who knows it’s really random. Sad that the capital club got no one interested.

Plenty of interest that's been highlighted many times it's the selling person that's the problem..

Maybe not if we get relegated... his financial support for club will need to increase to offset downturn in revenue no matter what cost cutting he does...

Well he as invested so like I said join list of how ever many investors they've got 15+? ...£15m loss got go wonder why he's done it? But good luck to him

I don't think the money he invested is relevant with him being involved in the club It's the quality of footballers he will attract to the club will be crucialj

Well that's all their fans are interested in! Can he use his contacts to bring in "real" players on loan? Not sure that will work but got it use it... he is more beneficial in his knowledge of football and how to get best out of club and its recauces . Brady did that to great effect at brum something massively lacking at our club..... financially got to question why? They've already got upwards of 20 investers and still made loss of £12m+ majority share holders put in 20m to keeping running this season.
"BUT" it's a useful addition to the club that's for sure and I wouldn’t mind similar at city

Doesn’t mean much , although it’s good publicity for a week
The amount involved is peanuts for a championship club with gates around 12,000
