India Escape Gov Cuts

Wed Oct 20, 2010 12:36 pm

Can anyone explain why we are having all these cuts yet we are still giving billions in aid to other countries? For a start we hand over £300 MILLION to India every year. India even got a space program  We haven't got a space program because we can't afford one.
Yes they've got lots of people in poverty but that's because they choose to spend their money on nuclear weopans and things like their space program. It's a bit rich to be cutting our own armed forces whilst we hand over 300 million quid to them to aid them even though they have the following.

"India possesses nuclear weapons and maintains short- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles, nuclear-capable aircraft, surface ships, and submarines under development as possible delivery systems and platforms. Although it lacks an operational ballistic missile submarine, India has ambitions of possessing a nuclear triad in the near future when INS Arihant the lead ship of India's Arihant class of nuclear-powered submarines formally joins the Indian Navy in 2012 after undergoing extensive sea-trials. Though India has not made any official statements about the size of its nuclear arsenal, estimates suggest that India has between 40 and 95 nuclear weapons,[2][3] consistent with estimates that it has produced enough weapons-grade plutonium for up to 75-110 nuclear weapons.[4] Production of weapons-grade plutonium production is believed to be taking place at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, which is home to the CIRUS reactor acquired from Canada, to the indigenous Dhruva reactor, and to a plutonium separation facility."

India is just one of the many counties we hand over massive amounts of money to. Yet the government have safeguarded these handouts whilst the UK faces some of the biggest cuts because we are on the bones of our arses. Surely charity begins at home. At times like this surely countries like India can fund their own space program and nuclear arsenals.

That's my rant over for the day. :ayatollah:

I liken it to a slightly more sophisticated version of high street racketeering.

High street racketeering may involve a business owner paying protection money to a gang who will, in return, protect his premises. The truth being if you don’t pay, the same gang will ensure you premises are damaged.

The UK pays India, Somalia and The Yemen etc. money. In return those countries agree to fight international terrorism that stems from their countries. They do just enough to make it look like a fight against terrorism is taking place whilst all the time ensuring the terrorist threat remains in order to collect their hand out from the UK every year.

Announcements today state that almost half a million public service job are to be cut. (And we’ll all work to aged 66). But the ‘good news’ is that the UK will become the first major economy to meet the 0.7% goal for overseas development.

Unbelievable!

It's NEVER prudent to follow an isolationist agenda, in times of difficulty, severing links whether they be economic or social is the easiest (and laziest) thing to do!

India bought some Hawks off us recently and instead of getting cash we just didn't give them aid that year. It's untrue really is.

I think the main reason is that we want to maintain a position on the G8 and UN Security council etc and to do that we must give a percentage of GDP in aid. Stinks really.
