Sporting events have fallen foul of the freeze - including last night's Sheffield Steelers' clash against the Cardiff Devils was cancelled by team bosses worried for players and fans travelling to the match.
The car park at the Steelers' venue - Sheffield Arena - was covered in a treacherous sheet of ice, while the Cardiff team also said they were worried about travelling home after the game.
The game has been moved to Friday January 29, and will now be played at the nearby iceSheffield venue in Attercliffe.
Player Jason Hewitt said the Steelers' Canadian players were coping well with the snowy weather, as they regularly experience much more severe conditions at home.
But he added with a grin: "They think they know everything about it - but then they couldn't get to practice!"
