Anyone played a tidy level of football???

Sun Nov 21, 2010 6:55 pm

Because the criticism of the team and manager is shocking!! If you have played football you will know that confidence is a major factor of playing well. You don't need the fans slagging you off for every mistake or having a bad game!

We're not going to win every game a and walk the league, wake up fruits! We WILL go up either as champions or second, its a marathon not a sprint.

Players do freeze and get heavy legs due to nerves etc aswell. I'm not defending DJ's tactics cos sometimes they are strange.

But encourage (like the leeds game!! Yes some people have short memories).

Please feel free to reply with some abuse fruits!! ;)

first of all there is no need to call any posters fruits.
secondly the level played is irrelevant.

Reminds me of the time I was playing for Llanbradach many years ago. I was home from college and was helping them out, I wasnt having a great game up front, but the service wasnt great either. Thre was a fat jack b*stard on the line giving me shit, knowing I was a city fan and drinking cans. I went over to take a throw in near him and he said something, to which I tossed the ball to him and said 'lets see you do better you fat t@@@.' I scored later and we won, so all ended well.

I bet half of ours wished they could have done the same

I agree with bartz comments, people pay good money like ourselves to watch these professionals!! I use to play with bellers for a few seasons and then for a few seasons I played against him and guess what, I had the responsibility to mark him, this was all at youth level.

I think you made some decent points there, especially regarding encouraging rather than criticising the players and the fact that we're not going to win every game. I thought the crowd were a little edgy yesterday and on the players backs after every little mistake (after forests first goal).

I'm not sure that it matters what standard of football people have played, most of us have watched City enough to know that the way we played yesterday wasn't a one off. We've seen similar performances to that this season and throughout the previous few seasons, we've also seen performances where we've blown teams away. The same weaknesses we've had for the last couple of seasons still exist, over the summer we actually strengthened our strongest area (attack) instead of concentrating on our weaker areas. We still struggle against 5 in the middle of the park, we still struggle without Bothroyd, we still struggle against quick strikers who play off the shoulder of our defence and we still panic and hoof the ball long instead of using the passing ability we have in the middle to play our way through the opposition. Do you need to have played at a high level to notice the above?

I don't see our performances this season being any different to the last 2-3 seasons to be honest, the only difference is that we're picking more points up this season when playing badly, especially away from home. We'll be in the mix at the end of the season.

Calling people fruits isn't going to get anyone to agree with you though is it? Maybe try not insulting people before they've had a chance to answer you question next time?

Once played for the Combined Services v Belize in a pre Concaf cup friendly, and scored (can't remember if it was from 25, 35 or 45 yards though, it seems to get further away as the memory fades)!!!
Also played in an Army cup final.....but lost in the final 4-1, a certain Guy Whittingham scored a hatrick (best player on the pitch by a country mile).

In saying that we were absolutely shocking in pretty much every department on Saturday. I was furious at the lack of effort and the lack of cohesion between the players. I also thought that if DJ was going to try and change the game he should have gone 4-3-3 and not taken Chopra off but thats just my opinion. The game is all about opinions and if the players cant take a bit of stick then they shouldn't be in the profession! Once you cross the line nerves etc tend to disappear after a couple of minutes once the adrenalin kicks in so sorry I dont buy that.

We are probably one of the most fickle sets of fans in the league but everyone deals with their frustrations differently, me I just go into a recluse type state others get on the players backs, we're all different but to call people"fruits" for venting their frustrations at the players seems slightly odd??

I played against Guy Whittingham twice in 1986, whilst I was playing for The Royal Corps Of Transport (BAOR), 2 years before he paid to get out of the Army!

I seem to recall he was playing for The REME (BAOR) and in the first game at Rheindahlen (Moenchengladbach), we were all over them, but Whittingham scored their equaliser in a 1-1 draw!

We finished top of our league (Whittingham's team finished as Runners Up to us), but we had to face them in the Final at Dortmund in May 1986, where Whittingham scored their winner, to make it 3-2!

I remember the above date vividly, as I was playing semi-pro for a German team at the time and on the day after the Cup Final, I played for my German team and snapped my Tibia and Fibula, just like Aaron Ramsey! :( :ayatollah:

If I could have run after the German B**tard that tackeld me, I'd have F**king killed him!  :ayatollah:

Bizarre I snapped my leg in Falingbostel, I actually managed to put my leg/foot into a rabbit hole on the brigade pitch and crack it went!! Yep he was Reme, same as me.

Great days, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoon off to play footy!!!

Re: Anyone played a tidy level of football???

I've played at a semi-pro level, and this is bollocks.

If you're having a bad game, you forget about the fancy stuff, and concentrate on the basics. Simple passes, staying in position, watching your man at set pieces etc etc.
You don't try back heels, you don't try miracle balls, you keep it simple and get it right.

These guys are professionals, they shouldn't have bad games. They can have decent games, games where they're solid but unamazing, but they should never be bad.

We (The Royal Corps Of Transport BAOR), used to meet up at Fallingbostel in the early 80's at 16 Tank Transporter Regt RCT, which was a dreadfull dreary place, but we had a great night out before we played in another Semi-Final of the Inter-Corps trophy, when I returned from Northern Ireland in April 1982 (Just after the Hunger Strikes)!

The whole Corps football team went up to The Reeperbahn in Hamburg (After telling the manager we were going to see a film in the local military Astra Cinema) and we saw many a sight to behold in the many brothels and Sex shows we visited! One male porn star was pretending to be a French Gendarme, was hung like a donkey and was slapping this pretty bird in the face with it! She got pretty pissed off with him however, as he caught her in the eye with his Japs' Eye, which made her eye water!

We didn't get back until about 4.30am and our game kicked off at 11am, which we lost 4-3! :( :ayatollah:

I was on Stoke City books until roughly Academy age. I wasn't good enough for that level of football, and to be honest I lost "the love" of football that I had.

I was briefly a apprentice at Bristol Rovers when they had a manager and a trainer in them days, Bill Dodgem was manager & Trevor Ford was the trainer. A footballers job was to play football & do the job they are asked by the manager, today's footballer has far too much power.
