Im not stupid when it comes to Engines, my queery was that i changed a complete engine after snapping a cam belt in the old one - dropped the sub frame, blah blah blah ........ Put the new engine etc back to normal. The problem i have is that every time i stop now the Engine is stalling almost feels like a misfire at low idle only..... Thing is all the electrics,water/power steering wasn't changed - just the block itself. so the only thing i can think of is that it has some kind of air leak (vacum) somewhere - possibly manifold....?

just wondering if anyone could confirm or add ?

cheers.

?

dont think there is one on this engine? pretty sure it's all electrical and managed by the ECU ?
no sensors or electrics were changed over FROM the new engine - it is all the original gear as stated above.

id say the ideal valve or stepper motor

wtf is a stepper motor ? its not a cross trainer!

i have to remind you again - THE ONLY THING CHANGED OVER WAS THE ENGINE BLOCK - nothing else.... ;)

Is there any qualified members on here? are are you all just having a guess because what i do know is that my knowledge so far is better than guesses ?

just wanted some one who knows what they are doing to confirm or write out the possibilities of a air leak some where? throttle body/manifold (inlet) ?

possibly coils or plugs, but highly unlikely.... they were working last week.

UPDATE:

ok - after much hoursa spent on my car, i am yet to solve my problem which is the car will run and drive fine! but won't sit there ant tick over (idle). traffic lights and roundabouts require the use of my handbrake and throttle!!!!

I have spent another day stripping down the inlet manifold checking for air leaks, cleaned the throttle housing, and replaced the throttle position sensor, took off the idle control valve - give it a clean and refitted, checked & cleaned the MAP sensor, the coils and plugs must be ok because the car runs fine...

The car was throwing out 3 sensor faults on a diagnostic computer - but after we stripped and cleaned everything, and restarted engine there was no faults showing, we did manage to get it to idle when it was hot, but it still wasnt ticking over tidy, was really hunting and trying its hardest to idle nice but it was still a bit lumpy at low revs..... anyway, i took it for a spin but still had the same problem, come to a stop and the car stalled!

This is now starting to get really puzzling and starting to annoy me! Anyone here bit of an expert with cars? especially shit french 1.6 16v scenic engines!

I cant think of any other reason as to why my car won't tick over.... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Used to know someone who had a megane with the same problem. Changed the ICV and MAP sensor and no difference.

In the end it was the MAP sensor pipe had a split in it. Changed that and it was fine from then on. Have you tried that?

Thanks M-Dub.

ok here is my new problem!!!

I've just this second come to find a startling discovery! If i try to start the car off the ignition with or without the throttle pedal depressed the car will go to start but die immediately.......

Weirdly though, if i start the car whilst pulling the throttle from inside the engine bay then pull out the MAP sensor and put it back in the inlet manifold hole - and release the throttle - the car WILL run and idle fine!!

the moment i turn the car off via the ignition - and try to restart it, it just reverts back to normal and Dies straight away! (in other words - i have to take out and put back the map sensor for the car to run!)

The interesting bit is this - I tried a map sensor from my mates 1.4 scenic (as according to my friend they are all the same) relpace my MAP sensor with his one (thinking that there must have been a fault with mine) started the car off the ignition and it still didnt work - unless i did the same thing with lifting the MAP sensor out of its position rev the car and put it back in - then it would run!

firstly - is the 1.6 and 1.4 using the same map sensor? i assume it is.

secondly - why does it seem after i turn the car off - i have to repeat a procedure in removing and replacing the map sensor for it to run? is something resetting all the time i turn the ignition off ?

please help - New puzzle!!!
