Policeman hurt after Stoke-Cardiff FA Cup game
A policeman had to be taken to hospital after he was assaulted during disorder following an FA Cup match.
The officer, whose injuries were not thought to be serious, was assaulted after Stoke City's 1-1 draw with Cardiff City at the Britannia Stadium.
Before Saturday's game a man had minor injuries after being assaulted at a nearby five-a-side football venue with two arrests made over the incident.
Staffordshire Police said about a dozen people had been arrested.
'Disappointing minority'
The force said officers had worked hard to keep rival supporters apart after the FA Cup game, but had been confronted by a significant number of fans intent on causing trouble.
Supt Pete Owen, who was in charge of policing the fixture, said: "It is disappointing how a minority of fans have clearly attended the fixture intent on engaging in disorder, rather than supporting their local team.
"We have worked hard with the club over the past few years to successfully reduce incidents of football disorder, which has allowed us to continually reduce the number of police involved each week."
A police spokesman confirmed that arrests had been made on suspicion of assault, criminal damage and public order offences.
The injured officer was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire by paramedics with a leg injury.
