Ideas for New Club Anthem/Song - how's this for starters ?

Fri Jan 28, 2011 1:46 pm

Hi

I've been playing around with songs and lyrics, searching for a good sound to reverberate around the stadium, how about this to the tune of Elton John's 'I guess that's why the call it the blues' ? First attempt, so go easy on me....

And I guess that's why
They call us the blues
From Super Kev
Back to the 20s and Fred
Remembering Ninian
Bob Bank to Grange End
I love the Canton, and City’s old legends
And I guess that's why
They call us the blues

And I guess that's why
They call us the blues

The only Anthem is Men Of Harlech. The words are (from the point where Ali plays it)

Men of Harlech stand ye steady
It cannot be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready
Stand and never yield

From the hills rebounding
Let this war cry sounding
Summon all at Cambria's call
The mighty force surrounding

Men of Harlech onto glory
This shall ever be your story
Keep these fighting words before ye
Cambria (Welshmen never) will not yield

We only need THIS as our anthem. I could see the entire Canton singing along to this and it'd sound awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ouiNyMs ... r_embedded

Kashmir was a good opening tune but we then had the bloody poofy version with the violin group. The proper Led Zeppelin version would be better. Plus more tunes like that before kick off. I remember one of the funniest away games was West Brom away a few years back where they played Toxic by Britney Spears and everyone was jumping around and going mental. Very surreal.

Sorry to double post but we need some Hans Zimmer before kick off! They play it at the Wembley finals. Here are a few examples...

Something like this before kick off would really get the atmosphere and create an epic feel to it all.

The Dark Knight one sounds really spooky, could well work.

I'm just fed up of hearing football songs that are used because they rhyme with certain football related words. They may well do but they create no feeling of adrenalin rush for me personally. I think more atmosphere can be gained by the music rather than the words. Music as background and the fans will do the singing/chanting.

Kashmir is an excellent choice - when we first started playing it last season, we didn't lose for ages, but then Ali was obviously told to turn it down and it lost its effect. It needs to be loud and not just the first couple of bars.

I'm probably going to get a slating here, but I feel Men of Harlech hasn't transferred too well from NP - nobody has bothered to learn the words and just clap at the appropriate point. I just don't think it has the passion it once did despite it being asong fr all proud welshmen and women - it doesn't help that you normaly just get a snatch of it when many are still taking their seats.

IMO i think the anthem should be I'LL BE THERE but instead of singing the same verse sing the whole song because it isn't exactly the most difficult to learn for those that dont know it , its unique to Cardiff City and its the tribute song for the Fred Keenor statue :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
