Hi Corky, my mate Robert Connelly had 16 months on Friday, I'm taking his wife to Wormwood on Monday tomorrow, dont have a VO, but am told all we need is 2 forms of ID one PHotographic and recent utility bill. Is this correct or do we need to contact Wormwood before visit.

Wish Rob well from all of us mate...Yes that is correct...something recent like a gas or electric bill, I also took a passport and a photo driver licence....you are allowed this visit because he has just been convicted...you will not be allowed to take anything to him...but they do allow you to take in £20 between the visiting party...

Once past a load of security you will be allowed to buy up to the £20 worth of stuff for him...sandwiches are good and are £2.50...there are plenty of bottled drinks there all about a quid each and also loads of sweets and chocolate....he will have to eat or drink it all during visit or you will have to take it home...he can't take it to the cell...

Men are given a purple arm bracelet to wear whilst visiting...you must keep it on during the visit.

I am going to start up a help group for all the families and friends of those convicted more details will follow when I work it out but basically it wil be to share info and to comfort each other during these bad times....hopefully we can share knowledge and news from the jail...then if any of the guys who have pleaded not guilty get convicted in May we will then be in a position to help them with what we have learned...if we all share phone numbers to start with we can buikld this group from there....share lifts, info, and experiences...better than all being on our own

cheers

Corky

Thanks for the reply corky this is much appreciated. I wish you and all your family the very best during what must be a nightmare.
I will keep in touch. Would just like to end with a few words given to myself on Friday by Robs solicitor. She said she was genuinely upset at the sentencing, as in all her career she had never seen the likes given to so many decent people. She believed her judge of character to be excellent, dealing with criminals on a daily basis and the the sentences to be so wrong. Unfortunately she did not believe them to be appealable.

Guys, there is an organisation called "Friends and Famillies of Prisoners" http://www.ffops.org.uk/

ironically they're based in Swansea, but let's not hold that against them! They are a voluntary organisation who offer the following services.

"A listening ear – call us on 01792 458645 or email us on info@ffops.org.uk
Moral support , advice & Information on any issues relating to having a loved-one or friend in prison i.e. held in custody, attending court, sentenced to prison or a young offenders unit, on licence, resettlement, financial, human rights, telling the children, travelling to prisons etc
Practical support with regards to completing forms and sign-posting to specialist organisations
Emotional support by providing an escort to court hearings or prison visits
To work with you to find your own strength during these difficult times
Free 1:1 (one to one) counselling available at our centre in Swansea – 101 Mansel Street, Swansea SA1 5UE "

There are no doubt other organisation who can help, I just know about these people, they're good people.
