I went there in about 1979, on a Llanrumney coach,With the Baker brothers youngest one on there in a night game, we beat them, Peter Kitchen scored. After the game we were attacked all the way back to the coach. Went there 3 more times with Cardiff, loved going there.
Also been there about 60 times in the 80's when Cardiff werent playing, They have become more of a Prawn Sandwich Club now.
All the old fans, I know well, plenty of friends there, Phone hasnt stopped.
Us, Pompey and Chelsea were all very similar, fanatical away followings and Passionate fans, Chelsea have lost that.

In the Ground we will be amazing, they wont be like the old days, but in the streets they will be very lively, they dont go the matches anymore.

I was as this game they stopped me and big John Cross from taking a toilet roll in !! All i remember from the game is big Mickey Droy taking mercifull stick from us city faithfull and Peter Kitchen scoring a last gasp winner in front of us to send us all wild. I remembered it as a league cup game but it could've been the lge the memorry plays tricks on you when you hit your mid 40's!! I do remember fun and games getting back to the coach after too.

I know who your on about Denis(sailor), Denis was a tidy footballer who was at Bristol Rovers as a youngster but lost interest and was happy playing at local level with Clifton Athletic, City always came first for him. I was always amused with Bakers the Butchers.
Chelsea away I think it was 79 was fruitful alright, we were in a pub in Putney which we thought was a safe house. little did we know that the pub was surrounded by crazed Cockneys and we literally had to run the gauntlet, right through them to get back to our bus which was being protected by 6 plod. We got a right pounding, but made the game never the less, foolishly after game we made our way back to same pub and yes we got the pounding again but atleast this time we stood our ground, all four 5minutes. Our bus was completely fucked and just managed to chug itself back home, minus half its windows.

It always makes me laugh when I see TV pictures of scenes outside the ground at Stamford Bridge these days, pre-match. You see black, Asian, Oriental people, even women. Not the same when I went there first time in 1984 or 1985 when they played the Yids. Back then it was all National Front recruitment drives, electric fences between the pitch and the terraces, you stood in the away end, the other end of the pitch from the Shed, you had the members section on your right, you had the Pringle boys on your left, when you walked out, you walked down a steep hill with bottles, bricks and other missiles coming over the top to your left. When you got out, there were Chelsea everywhere and getting to Fulham Broadway was a battle in itself, literally. And then you were on the platform where there was generally a huge charge towards you down the stairs from the animals they had following them back in the day. I wonder how the Sky generation of supporter would react to those days?
I also went there in 1989 when Millwall played there and I was in the Millwall end when Chelsea won 4-0. Millwall tried to smash the fences down that day, but I was actually surprised by how little trouble there was in and around the ground.

Yep, went to every game up there from late 70's through early eighties - must have been about half a dozen times including the League Cup.
All the trips seem to have merged into one memory tbh - all pretty much carnage. City used to do as well up there as they did when they came to us imo.
Remember having a drenching at one league game in the eighties. Mate had a donkey jacket on (he worked in the pits - remember them
at the time & it was in the car) and put a leather jacket on over it to shelter from the weather - and was still soaked to the skin. As I said, we'd driven up there and after the game came out of the ground, walking with the train mob. When we got to the station, we were left & realised we had to cross the road through their baying mob to get to the car. How we got through that lot without being sussed I'll never know. Stripped bollock naked for the journey home and when we got to Caerphilly to pick my mates mrs up she had an eye-opener
. Left one of ours naked outside her house as we drove off as well
The league cup match was interesting, can't beat a good train trip

Cant remember the year but it was in the 80s The trains were late the coaches delayed i was in London early with my mate and as we walked in the ground a copper was grinning and saying if i was you id better keep quiet and as we walked onto the terrace it was empty and that was f*cking earie then the shed started singing your gonna get your f*cking head kicked in, quite funny when i look back on it but at the time i was petrified then all at once the city fans started swarming in. Never so glad to see our supporters in my life. True story
