Don't pay to go on the Liberty island cruise boats, Get the Staten island ferry instead, it's free and you get great shots of the old lady and awesome pictures of Lower Manhatten. Just head for Battery park then follow the waters edge to the pier for SI.

Get Bottle Service at 230 and 5th rooftop bar. You will love it. Only costs $800 and for that you get a seat/ table and a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka and some mixers

hi mate, did you need a visa or anything or is passport all you need? thinking of going in march...

You need to get an ESTA
UnitedStatesVisas.us/ESTA
You have to do this before you go or they will make your life hell when you get there.
It does last for 2 years though
Bloddy Yanks!

Get a day pass for the underground - works out far cheaper than individual trips and also saves hassle of any queues at ticket machines
Visit Grand Central station - beautiful building inside and also some good cheap food outlets in the basement
If you do the Empire State building , don`t bother with the flight simulator ride or elevator ride to an even higher level than the normal viewing platform (both cost extra and not worth it) - also more scenic in the evening.
Agree that the Staten Island ferry gives a great , free view of the Statue of Liberty. So if you don`t actually want to climb the statue , you can save the cost of the ferry.
Watch out for loads of pickpockets around the Broadway/42nd Street area.

Thanks for info....how long does it take
Tue Jan 26, 2010 3:47 pm
Steve, it takes 5mins to fill out the form online.
I would give the empire state a miss and go up the Rockerfeller Centre instead, i was lucky the first time i went as the twin towers were still there and and you got to go outside on the roof.

went week before Christmas fab place, use the subway as quicker and cheaper then taxis. If you go down to Statue of Liberty then afterwards head for Century 21 which is bu ground zero, its a bigger version of tx maxx but has some top bargins if you can be bothered spending the time, stone island jackets 70% off uk prices, Fila, Ralph all cheap. Also the premium outlet centre at woodbury common has some top bargins, can get local bus for around 30dollars.
We did rockerfella centre rather than statue of liberty as no queues and views just as good. Also horse and cart ride around central park was good.
Food and drink is expensive compared to the rest of america though
Overall really enjoyed it and saving to go back soon

The knicks played when I was out there. Highly recomend going to see a match there! You can get tickets directly from maddison square!
The NBA shop on 5th Avenue is well worth a visit too!
