A forum for all things Cardiff City

It is my belief that Ben Steele has offered Cardiff City £2.7m to settle the outstanding tax bill which will in turn lift the transfer embargo. It is also my belief that the money willl be paid into the club's bank account today or tomorrow at the latest.
ben steele is offering this in return for a place on the board.
i believe that ben steele will not be putting in £40m as press reports suggest.
if peter ridsdale accepts ben steele's offer to settlle the tax bill this will be a short term fix and the club would still need further investment of £6.5m JUST TO SURVIVE THIS SEASON.
it is my belief that this is the last roll of the dice for ridsdale to be able to keep his promise of bringing in any new signings.

even if that happens carl i dont see any money available for players as i believe the season ticket money has gone on just paying wages etc the last couple of months.
The other interesting issue here is dato chan paid 200k for a position on the board and its going to cost ben steele 2.7 million
for the same position

£2.7 Million for a place on the board? interesting. If that's the case Ridsdale will have his trumpet out soon
Just delaying the inevitable though. His days with Cardiff CIty are numbered.

If you think back, everyone thought Steele was only worth £35million and questioned his ability to fund his purchase of the club.
Steele fought back saying he had the cash and it would be a quarter of his wealth, we all assumed that his wealth was roughly £160million based on the fact it would cost him £40million to buy the club.
Perhaps what we are looking at is an investment equalling the tax owed and the running of the club to the end of the season, i.e. £2.7mill + £6.5mill = £9.2mill. This amount as a quarter of his wealth would equate to a personal wealth of £36mill, the figure we first thought of.
We then have on board a major shareholder and the board can still look for major investment and Steele may get a quick return on his investment, especially if we get up.
See this money lark is simple. Anyone want me to do their tax returns......

More spin, deceit and subtefuge from Ridsdale then
Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:35 am
WHERE'S THE SEASON TICKET MONEY?
Tue Jan 26, 2010 10:36 am
This just gets worse - So we now have Keith Harris, Dato Chan and possibly Ben Steele all on the board
Question is do they all draw a salary ?

Is this prospect such a bad thing ? Surely payment of HMRC is paramount, therefore if Steel is willing to stump up the cash with a view to making some money on an eventual takeover by Malaysians, etc. that is good for the club
He's helping us out at our time of need, why shouldn't he have the prospect of making a few quid back in the future ?
It actually is more agreeable to me to have an interim solution like this rather than sell ourselves down the river with a full takeover by Steele who may not have the funds to take us forward in the longer term.
Ideally I'd like the Malaysians to take us over lock, stock and barrel but realistically that ain't gonna happen in the next week so an interim solution seems best for all parties. Or am I being naiive

What's the point in an outsider paying the £2.7 million tax bill and getting a place on the board when we already have current board members and shareholders willing to pay the tax bill but not until February. I'll tell you why!!!! It's Ridsdale trying to save his own skin
As I said days ago there will be lots of manaeuvering going on in the background in the next week. Will all make interesting reading I am sure.

I'm more cynical. Steele is a property developer and we have land avaiable on which to build property i.e. House of Sport/Hotel.
£2.7m buys that land and the proceeds pays the tax bill.

The more I think about it I'd like us to go bust, get back to football and f**k the money men who are bleeding us dry!

Sounds like a quick fix just to paint over the cracks. Still doesn't fix the underlining problem of why we are in this mess in the first place. Until that happens we will just delaying the process. Will this now put off the malaysains? Can't see them being happy with Steele coming in for a few weeks to making money off them, when they are supposed to be close to a deal themselves.

And yet again, there's little in those for developers.
House of Sport MUST be a sporting facility for the community - not sure, but I'd assume a lot of the profit from such a working facility would go to the council. Land has planning permission for that purpose only.
Same with hotel land.
So the value is far less than you'd think given permission is in place for specific functionality - be near impossible for changes to be made.
So, £2.7m for Steele to build a hotel in Cardiff. Not sure that's a great deal for him.
