Im not a real supporter

Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:48 pm

In the aftermath of saturdays protest, it would appear that im either a kid, or not a real supporter. Well, as a 27-year-old father of two, I can assure you im not a kid. As for the other allegation....on saturday, I was as fervent in my support for the team as I was in my protestation over the running of the club. Maybe even more so. As anyone who was within earshot of me will atest to, I was constantly trying to create an atmoshere, create a buzz, start singing and chanting only to be joined by a handful of diehards, whilst everyone else sat silent, twiddling their thumbs. These same people who seemed so unwilling to lend their voices in support of the team are the same who were so against the protest. Dave Jones came out and thanked the fans for the support. He was thanking ME!! And others like me, the very same people who protested. Not the silent majority. It was like a morgue to the right of 116 in the Ninian. Maybe thats what the REAL supporters want, to watch football in a library, but its not what I want and its evidently not what the manager wants either. So before you turn on others, think what a real supporter is. I guarantee the answer lies closer to me than those who sat silent.

If you don't like prawn sandwiches and make any noise over a few decibels you instantly become a 'fake supporter'
I sang my head off when the oppurtunity arose in the ground and outside at the protest. More fans like you are needed not these people who sit there and complain when someone shows thier passion for thier club. :ayatollah:

was in the Ninian stand saturday tried to get some songs going but was on my own bar a few other vocies trying too. It's putting me off going to be brutally honest.

Then to get slated for voicing my concerns about the club at a demo just adds to that bad feeling I have.

No you got slated for making assumptions about fans that didn't join the demo. Whilst you decided to take that route, others including me have decided to back the Trust and report the Golden Ticket matter to the Trading Standards.

That's why I and many others took acception to your 'spineless' snipe which you had no right whatsoever to make.

In that case what slating is in the Echo? I have read it and seems pretty sympathtic towards the demo. Could you please put the link up?

Tony a couple taken off ICWALES:

"any I feel that those who protested proved themselves to be quite naive when it comes to business matters"

"A very small minority protesting about something they know nothing about says it all.
The vast majority know that P.R. is doing the job in hand regardless of the few plonkers"

"Bit of a joke. As most of us suspected the ones making the most fuss on the message boards, and elsewhere, are a noisy minority of mostly children. The much publicised protest turned out to be just over 200 youngsters (mostly chav types) out of a crowd of over 19,000"

"wouldnt mind bettin the majority of this crowd even bought a season ticket..chavs..kids...drunks...and just an element of the cardiff fans who just wanna have theyr loud mouths heard..."

"them protesters are lucky it's the weekend cos half of them look like they should be in school"

Yea just found that it's on pages 14 & 15.

They seem to be random WoL MB posts. I wouldn't take much notice of them and you can always say no-one turned up to SUPPORT Ridsdale if he's so f**king popular as those people seem to think

Thing is people can demonstrate if they want, all this crap about them all being chav kids makes people look silly, what is a chav kid. To me they are passionate city supporters and have aright to stand up and have their say.

I am 38 and would have been there in a flash, but had to be somewhere. Back in the late 80s early 90s there would have been war outside, so the board got away with it...... for now.

I'm 20.

A younger fan, i agree, but the message i wanted to get across was the same as everyone who turned up.

I love how these people can slate us on a messageboard or in the newspaper, they wouldn't have dared come up to us and say it to our faces on Saturday.

Cowards.

Don't blame them, too many chavs and teens apparently

Re: Im not a real supporter

I have looked at the photo's and I can't see no chav types. And yeah there are kids/teens in amongst them but what can you expect we have thousands of supporters under 18.

What age would you need to be not to understand the way our club is run. I would say maybe a 12/13 year old would MAYBE struggle to understand all the financial side. Not be funny but a sensible teenager can understand the situation just as good as say a 50 year old.

What difference does age make? Do they think that kids are kept locked away and only exposed to the real world on match days.

I am 17 and understand what Ridsdale is doing is wrong and understand all the bad ways our club is run, I think the people who are writing these comments don't fully understand our situation. I also think they should stop stereotyping people.

the same rights that allow people to call us chav's and kids also gives us the right to demonstrate , we live in a country that gives us the right of free speech and the right to demonstrate. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Well said Greg

Re: Im not a real supporter

Thu Feb 04, 2010 5:18 pm

Right then,

I haven't been on here for the last few days because I've been keeping the wheels of industry turning, but during my time away from this board and from Cardiff City in general, it has giving me a lot of time to dwell on the events of Saturday and the aftermath.

I'm still exasperated that someone would call into question my support of Cardiff City just because I was involved in a demonstration at the way the club is run. During games I'm always trying to create an atmosphere to give the team a bit of an edge, to spur them on. I'm not content just to sullenly sit down like 90% of our real fans. Honestly, to the right of 116 in the Ninian Stand you'd swear there's a funeral going on, not a football match. Even more so when I get odd looks from people like I'm some sort of aberrant weirdo. People actually look confused when you try to get a chant going.

Yet these same people, who suck any atmosphere out of the ground like a vacuum, who were quick to castigate myself and other like-minded people for the protest, are the same who are quick to get on the players backs and groan when someone misplaces a pass, or loses possession. Yet I'm not the real fan??

Ask anyone who went on Dibs coach to the Bristol City FA Cup game in the snow. I was throwing up in the toilets before getting on the coach I was that ill. The colour had drained from me and people were seriously worried about me. Yet, through illness and snow, I still got to Ashton Gate. How many of the real fans who criticized me made the journey??

During the planning of the demonstration, it was agreed that there was to be only support for Dave Jones and the team for 90 minutes, something that everyone adhered to. Myself, to the point of going hoarse. Yet the real fans just sat in silence.

And then you have those real fans who slated us ne'erdowells, calling the demonstration a failure. I don't think National news coverage can be considered a failure. I don't think Manesh Bhasin and Steve Claridge, bringing focus on the demonstration on the BBC's football league show can be considered a failure. And let me tell you, that is only just the start. Onwards and upwards.

I'm still seething. Seething at Ridsdale and his lies. But what hurts me the most is that we who participated in the protest are just trying to ensure that those who lambasted us still have a club to watch. At least we are trying to do something, not just sit in silence. It annoys me that I have bought a season ticket next season, not because of PR's lies, but because I have to sit in a place with no atmosphere, with people who couldn't give me the time of day. God, I miss Ninian Park!!

Anyway, rant over for the time being. I hope everyone has a good weekend in Newcastle, maybe some of our real fans can learn a thing or two about supporting a club from the Geordies?? See you all at the next protest after the Peterborough game.
