The basic definition of a Supporters’ Trust is a democratic, not-for-profit organisation of supporters, committed to strengthening the voice for supporters in the decision making process at a club, and strengthening the links between the club and the community it serves. Although in some ways it may look like a charity, and has the name ‘trust’, it is not a charitable organisation.
http://www.supporters-direct.org/page.asp?p=2074#2If there is a strong membership the club are more inclined to listen....for example even if all this mess gets sorted and Malaysians arrive to rescue us...we still need to be heard...they could put admission charges up to £50 or they could do lots of things that may cause the fans concerns...
WE all have opinions and on our own these opinions rarely get heard or even more rarely get actioned...but as a larger group there is more chance of people in charge listening...
Maybe in the future one of the aims could be safe standing areas in certain parts of the ground, or a better away ticket policy for cup games etc...anything that is reasonible and the majority of members are behind then we should campaign for.
Basically the aims and objectives of a Trust is decided by the members and a lot of the time not a lot happens but the Trust is there for everyone in case of troubled times.
Portsmouth are trying hard to form a Trust as we speak but they will need a lot of support now down there and there is a real possibility that the club could go into liquidation.
A long term aim would be to get enough shares to get a supporters representative on the board...but that might take a long time to achieve.

How many memebers have we got ?
And how many would be needed to make a difference

I see it as a lobbying group more than anything.
Dialog with the club is always good ( well, not with Ridsdale ), but as it stands, the Trust clearly doesn't speak for all fans or it would have 20,000 members - the views of non rust members are every bit as valid and relevant.
The problem with getting a Trust member of the board is interesting, but very unlikely to ever happen. Anyone taking over will almost certainly have new shares issued, pushing the bar up constantly. Equally, should it ever happen, the chairman / board would have to have the utmost confidence in the member not telling friends, Trust members et al commercially sensitive information.

nerd sees it as a lobbying group but thats his opinion and not what the specified aims of the trust are
corky will fill you in
as for not representing the fans...well we have two supporters groups at the moment....the official supporters club and the trust
between them 2000 city fans have a voice..wether or not individuals agree is up to them
I would suggest that the voices of those who do not join the trust are of course valid ...but the suggestion seems to be that becasue 18000 people have not joined the trust ..then these 18000 firstly dont agree with the trust and also this 18000 all hold the same point of view
which, of course, couldnt possibly be correct

Right then - how much do the trust need to get a place on the board?
Let's see what we can do then.
I'll bung a few quid in

Come on lds - how much do we need to dib in to get represented on the board??
Wed Feb 03, 2010 10:49 pm
Probably a million quid...all depends on the current board of directors...the first thing we need to do is grow stronger and build it up.

I think the more numbers the better, the Trust needs the numbers to make them have a bigger say at OUR Club.
