I saw the original one on friday night (bought the DVD the other day) and saw the re-make again on sky Box Office (went to the premiere when Nick Love did the Q&A at the end).
I was in the pub with him afterwards and I asked him about the discrepancy with the dates regarding the fashions. He said it was set in 1984 and I said that the sportswear fashion had died out by the time Euro 88 had come round, but he said it wasn't meant to be aimed at that period of time but it was a generic game they were going to where 4,000 Germans were waiting for an England national firm. I wasn't really convinced by his answer. I also mentioned that no-one wore the whole tracksuit, but he said he was trying to make the new Bex a bit OTT (they weren't his exact words, can't remember what his exact words were now). For a director who prides himself on attention to detail, there were a lot of details that didn't seem to ring true. JD sports in 1984 was another. Didn't we all use Olympus Sports?
Also, Pompey's top lad had a yellow Best Company coat on. I had a green one exactly the same as that. I spent £150 on it back in 1986, best coat I ever bought (if you'll excuse the pun).

I like Both, The first one was more Serious and it was top in its day, But I do like the second one was well, wish it had lasted another half hour.

I bought the DVD of the original the other day, like I said, and I was surprised to see that it lasts for 67 minutes. The remake, according to the Sky synopsis, is 87 minutes. The additional time is well used, especially the interaction between Dominic and his dad. comedy gold some of that!
Annis, do you remember in the cinema, that posh sounding bloke asking Nick love if that sort of thing still goes on and someone shouting out "Take a look around you"!! I don't think he realised who exactly the audience included!!

I stuck with the tried and trusted adidas tennis shoes about that time (88-89?). I thought that was a pretty poor time, fashion wise

I'm yet to see the old one yet, but I watched the remake last night. Thought it was decent, could've ended better but all round a decent watch.
