On behalf of the committee and membership of Newcastle United Supporters Trust can we say welcome to the Cardiff Supporters Trust and its members for the forthcoming visit to Newcastle.
For information:
Your members may be interested to know that Car parking within the city is often at a premium on match days and the City Council are currently undertaking a vigourous and unfriendly approach to any form of illegal parking within the city itself. Any members travelling by car may find it easier to park outside the city and travel in by public transport. (either bus or metro train). Parking is normally free after 6.30pm although private carparks still charge.
Those travelling by coach may be interested to know that visitors from other clubs have reported issues with over exuberent or heavy handed policing where coaches are concerned. We have heard of coaches being delayed for not conforming to whatever instruction that police have issued concerning when and where to park, routes to be used and generally registering where requested. We have heard of some coaches being searched and held over due to breaches of alcohol rules or held over due to "intelligence" regarding individuals travelling within those coaches. Much of this is anecdotal and comes from conversations with visiting fans.
Train travellers can expect a heavy police presence at the Central Station and if numbers necessitate, they may be escorted by the police directly to the ground. We have known this to happen on occasions.
Most pubs are cool regarding visiting fans gaining entry although large groups are discouraged. Club colours are normally not an issue. After the match can be a different matter however as the city is very busy with the normal revelers, therefore the pubs can pick and choose who they allow in. As the game s on a Friday night, the city centre will be very busy regardless of the match and expect entry to be difficult.
Stewarding withn the ground has been known to be strict. Your members should be aware that stewarding inside SJP is conducted by a private company employed by the Club and with a background in pub door management. this has led to problems in the past.
Enjoy the game
