Managers decision: "Too Soon?"

Fri Feb 05, 2010 8:12 pm

McPhail back after his illness - starting in one of the most important games of our season, was this a decision made in desperation? Im not too sure how McPhail was training, feeling and performing but just made me think about his inclusion in the starting line up?

He's In the middle with Blake ? Is that another odd decision - and is a 4-4-2 against a very mobile side like Newcastle a wise idea?

Don't get me wrong - DJ is doing the best he can with what we have, but his decisions are kind of odd. START BURKE, and bring on McPhail second half if we must?

What you guys think?

I guess Riddlers lies about new players is even MORE relevant after the 1st 15 mins at StJames park...

He's an idiot. All the off field nonsense has glossed over the fact he's clueless.

mcphail started the game, i have just given up all hope in dave jones, that is a massive prick decision, i am scratching my bonce here, can someone explain this to me please

Re: Managers decision: "Too Soon?"

I can see a repeat of last season looming. We went on a 19 game unbeaten run which left DJ totally fustrated as he couldn't bring his golden boy back.

At the first oppotunity (after Norwich) he was restored to the side and stayed no matter what. The result? End of season collapse in the same way as we always do.

McPhail has been here for 4 years and everytime he worms his way in the side the ceiling caves in. Frankly I'm sick of it I just wish he would f**k off and curse some other team.

i just told the wife he was in the first 11 i thought she was going to faint

Re: Managers decision: "Too Soon?"

I can understand why DJ did it. He wanted an experienced head in the middle, and McPhail was playing well up until his illness.

Not saying I agree with it, but I can see the reasons behind it.

Absolutely appalling decision - DJ out!

Blaming McPhail is disgusting . Too soon and the wrong formation .

It just doesn't make sense.

How can a half fit waste of space like McPhail get into the side ahead of Burke?

McPhail's continued f*cking up of this club is disgusting

Did you even see him play in the first half of the season? One of our most important players

I'd imagine that the fact they play in different positions may have something to do with it

What a stupid remark. Burke was accomadated against Doncaster by moving Whittingham into the middle, who BTW laid on a brilliant goal for Chopra.

Are you suggesting repeating that line up, by dropping McPhail for Burke is impossible?

What about McPhails passes through to Chops in the first half of the season?

I'm suggesting that you're a bit of an idiot.
If your logic is as you suggest, then Whittingham is ahead of Burke, and McPhail is ahead of Whittingham.

Why are people so annoyed at McPhail anyway? It wasn't his decision to play, and he was one of our best players before his illness.

Derby aside name them?

Re: Managers decision: "Too Soon?"

Fri Feb 05, 2010 8:35 pm

we were top of the league when mcphail was fit

easily the best centre midfielder at the club and and a worthy gamble tonight in the absence of ledley and rae

darcy blake was probably the worse choice, have seen nothing from him to suggest hes up to this level at all in the middle

I'm the idiot (personal abuse noted) tell me what's the score at present? Oh by the way your logic is a bit suspect, McPhail one of our better players BEFORE his illness, remind me how many did he score up until then?

We went 19 games unbeaten without him last season. He is far from the best CM at the club, for that title I would at least expect some kind of goal return.

Why is that funny? I thought this board wasn't supposed be about snipers but about opinion. I don't think calling someone an 'idiot' is respecting opinion or is that previllage reserved for the favoured few?

ok - well i do agree McPhail was great up until his unfortunate illness - but i still think Jones has rushed him back....

Desperation can be blamed on RIDSDALE!

lets hope the controlled protesting continues after the next home game! :ayatollah:

But I would suggest goals are rather important and for the 'best midfielder at the club' you would expect a few after all Ledley, Rae, Whittingham, Burke and McCormack have all scored from midfield this season

Just seemed a bit petty,

His opinion was that you seemed a bit of an idiot, in the same way you thought his comments were stupid.

Re: Managers decision: "Too Soon?"

I think the blame should be laid more at the players for this performance so far tbh.. Gerarrd is having a mare, Bothroyd packed it in most likely once we went 3 down and even Matthews is struggling a little tonight. I've hardly heard blakes name been mentioned and yet again the gap between the defence and midfield is massive! I am sure dave jones has worked on that in training and the y just don't seem to be taking it on board. If anything where jones went wrong is that he should have gone 4-5-1.

Re: Managers decision: "Too Soon?"

Everyone is entitled to their opinions - so stop bickering boys :ayatollah:

and the thread is about McPhail coming back tooo soon - who knows - Dr's would have had to assess him

BUT on another note :) he is DJ's blue eyed and was guaranteed a line up soon as the nod was given

Love him or Loathe him - so long as DJ is here he will always play!

I have already explained further on up. I would have gone with the same midfield vs Doncaster Burke Whittingham Blake (in for Rae) McCormack

You've changed from Centre Midfield to midfielder . What is your views on Wilson Palacios . By your thinking he's garbage. 1 goal in 70 Premiership games.
