OT - I Need Your Help - Faceparty.com

Thu Feb 11, 2010 6:43 pm

We are at wits end.

A member of my family has had their online Facebook identity stolen and used to set up a www.faceparty.com account. They have changed her name slightly and are suggesting she is into absolutely anything!!

The police have been contacted but they have said that there is no fraud involved as it is just some saddo using pics to hide their identity and get a quick thrill from any contact made.

This would be fine except people have noticed her pics online and it is becoming pretty embarrasing. The police don't seem to be motivated by us suggesting they could be grooming.

My question concerns access to the site, it states that you need to be referred with a password by a current member and hoped someone on here would be able to provide one. There is another option but it incurs a £25 text message which we will do, but I suggested this post as an option first.

Have contacted the site administrators but they are obviously not forthcoming without police intervention which is where we are having problems. Just had a guts full and want to inform the idiots friends of their actions.

Not sure if you've seen their help pages but their content and language are quite something, I obviously don't understand the kids of today.

It's really frustrating, Facebooks answer was shut your account, cheers lads.

She's not that old and although I have always told all family members to stay away from social networking obviously they listen to friends who rave about them.

Cheers, guys.

That site looks charming, Wayne. Good luck in getting things sorted, sorry I can't help.

looks like a bunch of american dicks run that site, set up to get money from naive young kids.

Thats harsh, I've tried doing a lookup on them and no information

http://www.whois.net/whois/faceparty.com

I can understand (just) why the police won't take this up, it would seem to me this site has been setup to basically extort money from people, I wouldn't advise signing up for £25 as there is no guarantee that you will be able to remove the pics etc.

Problem is if the photo was free to use and the name against that photo was not an exact match then I guess they would claim that its not defamatory

As a long shot have you considered taking it up with your MP, to get this problem publicised?

Cheers lads.

Have been in touch with a high tech crime unit in London, but it's safe to say it will not be their priority and we found out the company that owns the site is American so just a little bit more difficult to track down.

We think that we will never get the pictures and wording off the site but may register just to plough in a load of messages to linked friends just to warn them, hopefully that will snowball and they will get sorted out from inside.

Time to throw 25 quid down a well.

If you put this weeks password on here and a link to this profile that's using your daughters pictures then we can all join up and also send messages to the friends of the profile.

This WEEKS password? Does it change every week then? Really is dodgy. It's not my daughters pictures she has been warned off such things and as she is only 12, I'd be down the throats of the police if these things were being said of her.

Suffice to say my Auntie is not as switched on.

I'll speak to her before directing even more people to the page, she's embarrased enough already.

they also state that after you pay £25 there is no guarantee the password will work and if it does it may only last a week and you have to pay more money to rejoin :!: :!:

My mate had a girl stalk him in uni and she even went to the police claiming he raped her. The police then realised she was lying when it turned out he was at a uni event at the time she claimed it happened. She then hacked his facebook, e-mail and online accounts. Sent people messages via his facebook which was extremely offensive material and then used his details to hack other people's accounts. My e-mail got hacked but that was all. There's some proper twisted individuals out there. Did the police give a shit about the hackings though? No.

From what limited information we could get about the person who took the details, they seem to be male, posing as a female. They (he) does not seem to reply to messages from men but strikes up conversations with any female that posts on their timeline.

We are of the opinion it is some geeky tosser that lives with his parents, but you have to be wary that they could have ulterior motives and people could be at danger. This is why we are pressing the police, but unless they is a monetary fraud, they don't seem to want to know.

Part of me wants to get on there then - befriend, meet and beat, but slander on the site will suffice.

That would be genius. Befriending them and meeting up with them. However, it's then a dangerous game because you know nothing about them and if they're faking an account the chances of them agreeing to meet are extremely low.

Contact faceparty directly and explain your account has been hacked. I know you might have to pay but surely due to it being a hacking you shouldn't be made responsible for payment?

I didn't give the meeting up too much thought, you just become as bad as them and can you imagine if it was just some girl using pictures of a prettier woman. You turn up and their, let's say, young. It would be YOU in the wrong and the police will be sticking YOU on a register.

Faceparty are useless, do not want to know. They will if the police do get invovled though.

faceparty has been in several scandals involving grooming, and several members have been arrested for underage sex. it is a site to stay well away from.
