Just to play devils on this, having read the story, she isn't getting it cash in hand the £7k goes straight to the landlord and that is the going rate for that home. The money she gets for her family of seven is minimal and would be hard to live on. The Daily Mail are godd at bigging up this sort of story.

However, not playing devils, I agree it's pathetic, for a start we are all aware how much it is to live in London and if you have to rely on welfare from the government they should be moved out of such a rich location.

The money which the local authorities got for the housing should have been put to develope more housing. the money that the councils raised from selling council houses was ring fenced meaning that it could not be spent on building new housing and had to be used to pay back the deficit to central government

until that deficit was cleared , no money whatsoever was available for new council house building

I was on the dole for 6 weeksabout 11years ago and i got eff all apart from 40 quid a week. Had i known the system my council taxetc would have been paid.

The trouble is no politician is willing to say that they will do such a thing. All scared of upsetting the spongers.

they then didnt build any to replace them from 1980 to 1997

and so people had to go and live in private flats ...paid for if people were not working or disabled by housing benefit ......and people who had lots of flats and houses did very well out of it
