Buy advance tickets for single one way jouneys.

The further in advance you buy, the cheaper they are.

Just sorted my brother our for the Jacks game.

Glasgow Central - Cardiff Central £21.50 single.
Would have been the same back.
(Changing at Crewe - £10 & £11.50 then x 2)

national rail enquiries and the like.

Generally on sale 10-12 weeks in advance. They only put out a small number at cheaper prices so when they are sold, they are sold.

Just be wary of games that may get switched for TV etc as the tickets are non refundable and a charge would be made to amend any details.

The tickets are also only valid on the service they are booked for so if you were planning a day on the sauce, don't buy a ticket for the 7pm and decide to go home at 9pm as you;de have to pay full fare.

www.thetrainline.com

I use this a lot for tickets and again there is a way round if you book early and also if needing a return then you buy 2 singles tickets instead of one return cuts the cost big time

splitting your journey saves loads as well

for the chelsea match newport - west brompton was 60 quid

but newport - reading and then reading - west brompton was just 18 pound

have to say i prefer the coaches mind
