Cardiff City Forum

A forum for all things Cardiff City

Hi, a few suggestions

Thu Feb 18, 2010 12:56 pm

Hey everyone,

I'm a new member but hope to settle in well and get to know y'all well. I don't much like ccmb, so that's why I've headed over here to post.

I have a few suggestions that I believe could make this the best Cardiff City messageboard.I know I'm new, so my opinion probably doesn't count for much yet, but I hope some people will consider my points.

Firstly, I think the forum has a good core of posters, so I don't think one big section is needed. I think it could be a good idea to break the forum up into different boards so that the place is more organised. Obviously we want the board to be busy, but we also want it to be easy to navigate.

I suggest sections similar to below:
[*] The community information section. Here members can introduce themselves, read the house rules, and possibly a suggestions page. (CAN YOU CREATE SUB-SECTIONS inside sections?)

[*] The Cardiff City section. Obviously, with cardiff being the main point of the mb, this will be our main focus and discussion area.

[*] The football section. To discuss football outside of Cardiff City Fc.

[*] The next section I would have would be a general chat section. We could call it something like "The World Around", I like it anyway.

I would also suggest a different skin option, as some (including me) may find the skin a bit bright, and harsh on the eyes.

Last but not least, I would suggest some sort of rules be put in place, and possibly a warning system (if there isn't something already in place). Other forums I've posted on have been made great by the fact that they have rules and disciplinary in place so that the place is organised, easy and fun to post in.

The Rules

I have a few suggestions rule wise, which I hope aren't too stupid.
I think that it's important for us to have a sofisticated forum, and rules are important for that.

* No "TXT" talk- I think that it's good to have a forum where everyone speaks "properly." I know it's 2010, and everyone has a right to do what they want, but it's better in my opinion. It's much easier to read "I have been a Cardiff fan for over 20 years" than "I av bin a Crdif fan 4 ova 20yrs" By banning text talk we would have a nice, tidy looking forum. Obviously things like "IMO" etc could be tolerated but things like the example I gave should be banned.

* Post boosting. It's easy for people to post stupid things, just to get their post count up. Through punishing members for "post boosting" we would make sure we avoid stupid, meaningless posts.

* Alias accounts- people with more than one account. This should be banned IMO, to stop people from having one account to post sensibly and one to post shit, excuse my French. The "alias" account should automatically be banned.

* I agree with all the rules posted at the moment, but have one more suggestion I think would certainly improve this forum for the better.

Points system

I reccommend that we devise a "points system" to punish members that break rules. It would keep the place in better order.

We could then ban members that clock up a certain amount of points.

* 10 points= 3 days ban
* Another 5 points (totalling 15) = Weeks ban
* 20 points equals permament ban
* Certain rules broken would result in a straight permanent ban

Here's the points system I reccommend:

* TXT talk (if applied as rule)= warning, 0 points.
* Repeated use of TXT talk (if applied as rule)= 3points
* Offensive behaviour (insulting a member for no reason)= 2 points
* Creating alias account= 5 points, and permanent ban for the account created
* Posting pronographic material= 6points
* Posts promoting illegal stuff= 8points
* Posting Spam= 5points
* Racist comment= 6points
* Ignoring a mod/admin's request(after being warned many a time)= 3 points

Any warning/infractions/bans handed and the member would be given a PM with the info on what they've done, a link to the thread/post (If applicable) and a comment from that mod/admin.

I hope these are decent suggestions, and I understand no one wants to feel like their being controlled on what they post but that's not what I'm saying at all. I just think it's important to keep a sophisticated and organised forum.

Cheers

Okay maybe the rules/warnings etc are a bit OTT.

Oh and is there a way to just post a quick reply, instead of having to go through all of this cuffuffle?

What an absolute load of rubbish!! All i'm sure most people on here want to do is read threads all about our beloved CCFC and post replies if we want etc. Rules.. you just completely lost me with all that, surely there is no point changing anything.. or am I wrong :roll:

Re: Hi, a few suggestions

That first post has melted my brain. Thanks Gump!

The idea of splitting up the forums into sections as discussed but it had both pros and cons so it was left for the time being. It something that might be worth looking at in the future but I love the random topic posting all in one area. You never know what will crop up and I get involved in a lot of topics that I would otherwise just ignore if they were in different sections.

Nah, lets just leave it as it is apart from one suggestion I would like to put forward: we should have a points system to promote illegal stuff, porn and racist stuff :lol: :lol:

"* Posting pronographic material= 6points"

That some kind of middle class pornography then?

Spelling mistakes and poor grammar -20 points!!

I suggest increasing the number of pixels allowed for avatars or whatever those little pictures are called so I can have Debbie Harry's camel toe as my avatar :D

Will there be a prize for the member with the most points at the end of the season? Perhaps we could have a Premier League style Board and a Championship Board, promotion/relegation, all sorts of good stuff........

forest --started off well with the splitting of boards thats a good idea and i suggested it once.
other than that we seem to have a little Hitler on the board, rules and regulations !! what does it matter if people post in text speak? and so what if people use bad grammar or bad spelling ? as long as people can read what you have written.

im sure the admins and owners are intelligent enough to write there own rules and regulations. my advice to you is enjoy the board have a laugh and so what if you write crap to boost your posts, what may be crap to you may be valuable info to someone else. have fun and chill man !!
