Cardiff v Barnsley - MY RATINGS and summary!

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:31 am

From 3 rows up in the family stand (took the boys!)

*Enkleman - Done as well as any keeper could do with a poor defence in front of him. Stopped a few decent shots, but seems to slice all his kicks off to the right 95% of the time! 6/10

*McNaughton - Probably one of the better players on the pitch, but after his Echo statement of being well fit and ontop of his game, didnt really meet fans expecatations against an average Barnsley team. 7/10

*Gerrard - Played a part in both goals for Barnsley, lack of ability to read the game, leaving players unmarked and always getting caught on the break (Subbed at half time) 5/10

*Gyepes - Strongest defender on the day, but still way off the mark. Cleared some important headers, and tried to get stuck in but seemed his mind was elsewhere on occasions. 6/10

*Matthews - came on at half time and applied well! went on same fantastic bursting runs and played some great balls FORWARD! always has his head up looking for killer passes, will improve but as an inexperienced player did his best for 45 mins, needs to be careful not to give the ball away in important periods of the game. 7/10

*Kenedy - Very good thinking player, but his speed(age) is starting to let us down, has the ability to do well in games but are few and far between nowhere near as consistent as McNaughton. Gave the ball away much to much, and looked knackered too early on. 5/10

*McCormack - Always shows the determination we are looking for, very quick, forward thinking and running player, got caught in possesion a few times but his shear grit and determination over rules, needs to shoot more, although did well and has the backing from the fans. Maybe its time Chopra was dropped to be replaced by ross up front. 7/10

*Rae - another poor game. Many opportunities to play some tidy forward balls and get forward but on many occasions chose to turn his back on the game and play the ball BACKWARDS. The total opposite of what we are trying to achieve. Might do alot of running during a game but usually counts for nothing, never tackled, got stuck in or played any killer balls - very rarely got forward to support chops or Both. 4/10

*Wildig - went off early due to injury re-occurance, young upcoming player showing plenty of promise. No comment on this game.

*Whitts - Looked more like the Whttingham of last season against Barnsley. poor passing, missed a couple of easy chances on peters standards. Lost the ball way too often, never chased the ball down or closed players down quick enough - Not on his game today. 5/10

*Chopra - Where shall i start. Missed a 3yrd sitter! and another chance shortly after trickling wide of the post. For a prolific championship striker he's currently underperforming and is not reaching the form he needs to get his target of 30 goals. Not interacting with Bothroyd as he usually would and just looked as if he didnt want to play? Maybe its time for Ross and Chopra to swap roles. 6/10

*Bothroyd - once again! my man of the match for CCFC. Held the ball up well on occasions, although seemed to lose the ball a bit more today but cutting back across the field. Chased lost causes and won them. played some neat wide passes for the likes of burke and Mcnaughton but no return. Won freekicks to put cardiff on the front foot only for others to waste chances. 8/10

*Burke - needs to run more at defenders - we know how dangerous he is at this and gives us a good wide outlet, but nothing really seemed to come off today. Once again the away team flooded midfield with 5 players, and always had 2 players on his case when he received the ball. Needs more support from the middle. 6/10

Summary - Jones' flat 4-4-2 is still being used and away teams are sussing us way too easy, flooding midfield with 5 players. Defenders to day were slow to react, and not making decent clearances. midfield to slow to support, and we played way too many backward passes. Although Jones is limited with players, he's not limited to use of tactics and has to be partly to blame. (although he wont admit it!) players now need to start playing for their shirts and with their hearts otherwise our club will slide downwards and fail to make the playoffs again...

Dissapointing result against an average championship team. (taking no credit away to Barnsley who have earned 6pts against us this season)

9/10 ?

you having a laugh mate.

I think you'll find my assesment was fair enough.

Nobody got anywhere near full marks at this game.... Im not even sure it was Cardiff City that turned up. The players have given us f**k all to sing about at home this season in perspective. Dave Moans wants a 12th man and a good atmosphere then he needs to get his effin tactics right and his players playing for their dough.

pretty much agree with all those ratings apart from mcormack. 5 at best in my opinion. on that form unless administration bites he will still be a cardiff player next year...
