If Jones says players are tired look at Burnley last year

Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:02 am

I will take you to Burnley last year who got promoted and in fact looked fresher towards the end of the season.

They had 8 players involved in more than 40 league games for them including Graham Alexander playing all 46 at the age of 37.

They had 14 players (incl the above 8) who were involved in more than 27 league games.

They used a total of 23 players but of these 5 were involved in less than 5 league games and a further 2 started 1 league game and were sub for 10 and 8 league games respectively.

A lot of these players also played 7 games in the Carling Cup and 5 in the FA Cup. Graham Alexander played 61 games in total.

Not sure what they feed them up there but it's better than what we feed our overpaid .............

My father said if I can't say anything nice don't say anything at all so I'll leave that blank.

totally agree ith your post, just remembering back now, they played spurs in carling cup quarter or semi final. 2 legs and the home leg was somthing like 5-3 after extra time, on a fuckin cabbage patch.....never heard owen coyle moan once. thye would have had a tiny squad, and played the most games in our league by a mile. (i would imagine)

Spot on, great post.

I was only thinking that on Saturday walking back to the car as I worked through the likely DJ press conference excuse list

"Listen, those lads have worked their socks off for this club in the past few weeks"
"Listen, this was probably just one game too many for them"
"Listen, I looked round the dressing room and they are shattered - They all literally running on empty"
"Listen, I am proud of my players and will not critise them for the 100% effort they put in today"
"Listen, we have no divine right to beat anyone in this division"
"Listen, anyone can beat anyone in this league"
"Listen, there are no easy games in the championship"
"Listen, I can't answer a single question without starting with the word "Listen"...." Okay maybe I didn't expect him to say that bit

He forgets he gave away Thommo to Burnley, and they had a smaller squad than us on less than half the wage bill.

Being tired is NOT an excuse, you know how the game is played, how many minutes there are to be played and how many potential matches there are.

I can excuse fatigue when there are players carrying injuries but I will NEVER accept tired as an excuse, the poor bastards.

i think that them bein tired during games is due to the training they have i dont think it involes enough fittness things. if anyone has scene the basketball film coach carter were we makes them jus run and run for their first few training sessions doesnt teach any skills just says they have to run durning the game and use wat they know i think this could work as it would get the fittness up of our players then we can work on their weak points which in most cases is their fittness and they havent got any bottle or fight
