This is what my doctor advised me.
Drink plenty of water and avoid fizzy drinks. It helps to dilute the uric acid.
Avoid High-Purine foods such as:
Sweetbreads
Anchovies
Sardines
Liver
Beef kidneys
Brains
Meat extracts (e.g Oxo, Bovril)
Herring
Mackerel
Scallops
Game meats
Gravy
Funny enough the only one of the things above that I eat is gravy and that's only on a sunday dinner. So that didn't cause it.
Use these in moderation:
Vegetables: asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, mushrooms and green peas
Lentils, dried peas and beans
Beef, pork, poultry, fish and seafood
Oatmeal, wheat bran and wheat germ
Now this is where I think I went wrong before, I used to eat a lot of these.
My doctor also gave me tablets to take called Indomethican. See link at bottom for more information on them. (I am one 75mg twice a day after food.)
I have by no means stuck to the diet strictly but I have to a certain extent and it has helped.
If you type low purine diet into google there are loads of different websites telling to the foods to avoid and the foods to eat.
Hope yours gets better.
