The biggest problem with staying at our beloved NP was the fact that if we had stayed we would have had to get rid of the terracing as I believe the Football League had only given us an extension on the basis of the new stadium coming to fruition.
Of course, putting seats in would have been cheaper than a new stadium but it probably would have reduced the capacity still further and there may have been knock-ons such as extending the roof over the Bob Bank, etc.
The other thing is that if we had to do all that work would any bank have lent us the money ? It's a bit like a mortgage on a house, banks/building societies fall over themselves to lend you money as long as you have equity in the house, NP was pretty dilapidated toward the end and maybe that could have been an issue too. I certainly don't think we would have stood a chance of getting any additional investment in unless we moved from NP but, then again, would we have needed it
I do miss the atmosphere at the old ground but having a drink and watching the game are much less of a chore in the CCS, particularly in the winter
