TRAVEL ADVICE......(ROMANTIC SHHH)

Fri Mar 12, 2010 3:02 pm

I am looking to take the wife away for her 40th in either July or August somewhere in Europe. The catch is she wants to go somewhere different so no Rome or Paris etc.
So who can recommend or enlighten me on:
Barcelona
Budapest
Madrid
Venice
Pisa or Sorrento :?:

How about somewhere not on your list ? Seville is a wonderful City for couples, you just walk from bar to bar eating tapas and drinking beer/wine, went for the 3rd time in last month ....... heaven !!

How about Hamburg? I wentr there a fwew years ago when the world cup was on. It's got a lake you can sit out by and in the summer on a nice day it's a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

Plus, the massage parlours on the Reeper Bahn are great and makes a change from the default choice of Amsterdam for the ladies of the night :ayatollah:

Hotels or "Hotels"?

We stayed in one a short cab ride from Hamburg centre, can't remember the name but i will try and find the card I kept when I was there (can't believe I've still got a hotel business card from nearly 4 years ago!!!)

I was based not far away from Hamburg when I was in the Army - too much of a chance of bumping into German offspring, not a great idea with the wife!

 If you meant Seville then we always use this one, very Spanish and very central: Hotel Las Casas de la Juderia

My vote goes to Barcelona. Great place, good food and drink and top sights.

Can get there and back for as little as £50 from Bristol too...

Watch out for the Libyans, we've got masses of work out here, very involved with Green Mountain Area and have a new leisure complex in Tripoli about 5kms long!! I think there's a few hotels as well as several museums. Getting the buggers to cough up the invoices isn't easy as whilst they have the have the money they do not like parting with it!! If you're into archaeology/history then it is great pace, no booze though and the non-alcoholic stuff I'm sure is camels piss. Do not drive in desert areas in an SUV though unless it has official govrnment plates as they will shoot on sight, the filth believe that anyone who drives a SUV and not government is a drug runner!! Then again driving over there is something of an experience..........

i have heard of it, but i don't know much about it, if its a romantic break your after, theres a load of restaurants etc around that area that do traditional spanish dishes etc. If you go, make sure you try out the ramblas, a busy street near the port full of bars, restaurants and shops. Loads going on there with entertainment going on all day. Loads of shops too, the official barcelona shop is on the street and they have some amazing spanish restaurants all the way up the ramblas which do some beautiful food. If you tire of spanish food, there's the Barcelona hard rock at the top which do some awesome grub. And pay 20 euros and you get your cocktails free from 2-5pm. bargain. (although they may have stopped it since i worked there as i probably near enough bankrupted them with the offer)

And of course, don't forget to whisk your beloved away with a fantastic romantic trip to the Nou Camp. Always a passion filler mate. Give her a once in a lifetime opportunity to get her photo taken with the champions league trophy

or a cardboard cut out of messi.

its the place i always looked forward to going when i was working abroad

hope this helps mate
