I am wondering because it's my mates birthday tonight and the pub he is going to have got all under 18's serving and I know they will refuse me drink.
So can I say something along the line's of "Oh listen I know your under 18 and shouldn't be working here so just serve me and I won't say anything"
Or are they allowed?

i think in a pub you have to be 18, but in a private club (working mens clubs...) 16 with adult supervision

Sorry but that 16 only applies in a supermarket, to work in any pub you have to be 18.

This is the situation. It's run by a 17 year old girl who used to be in my school, her father is loaded and gave her the pub. She has employed loads of her friends and non of them are over 18. No adult supervision.
So is she allowed?

Definitely not, the licence must be in her fathers name as again you have to be 18 to hold a licence, and then very few 18 year olds are granted one.

is a common misconception that you must be 18 to legally serve alcohol in a public house.
The Licensing Act 2003 (Section 153) allows for the sale of alcohol by under 18s when supervised by a "responsible person" - defined thus:
(i) the holder of a premises licence in respect of the premises,
(ii) the designated premises supervisor (if any) under such a licence, or
(iii) any individual aged 18 or over who is authorised by such a holder

ive had a local girl who was 16 at the time working for me supervised by my bar manager ,i ask the local licence officer if it was ok and they said yes but she must be supervised! apub ,supermarket etc are now classed as one under the new act

not sure about a "pub"
but i know people working in the local rugby club (there is a difference under licensing laws, i assume?) who are under 18 (17 to be exact)
either way i don't think arguing with them will work really

I work in a private club at 16
and a pub is 19
Mon Mar 15, 2010 5:48 pm
18 sorry

I have personal licence.
In a pub you have to be 18 to serve, you can collect glasses but not serve.
It is sixteen to serve in a club but it has to be a private members club.
If a rich dad gave you a pub to run you must have a licence and as you are responsible for the whole pub you must sit your exams and police checks before getting one. And if in charge you must register as the designated premises supervisor (DPS)

this was taken stright off the licensing act in black and white?
