South Wales Police sergeant Aled Ioan Jones was pulled over by officers from a neighbouring force while drunk
A serving police sergeant was caught drink-driving by fellow police officers while he was four times over the alcohol limit.
Aled Ioan Jones, who works for South Wales Police , was pulled over while driving along the A486 at Cross Inn, near New Quay in Ceredigion , on the evening of Friday, June 19.
The 45-year-old, of Maes Mor, Cross Inn, appeared at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on July 11 where he pleaded guilty to a charge of drink-driving.
He was handed a prison sentence of 20 weeks suspended for two years.
Despite providing a sample of 149mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath he also avoided a driving ban or having any points added to his licence.
The legal limit is 35mg – meaning that he was more than four times over the legal drink drive limit.
South Wales Police has confirmed Jones' case will now be considered by the force’s professional standards department.
