PLAYERS COULD BE FORCED TO PAY AGENTS

The Premier League’s top footballers could soon be forced to pay their own agents – rather than rely on their clubs to pay them – in what is set to be the most radical changes to the way football agents work in England.

League chiefs meet on Thursday to consider changing the onus of responsibility for payment from clubs to players. While the move is likely to prompt demands for higher player wages, the clubs believe the move will curb the spiralling fees that some representatives are demanding.

Last year, football intermediaries earned more than £220m in fees paid by clubs in England and Wales. If the changes are adopted, deals like Paul Pogba's move from Juventus to Manchester United - where super agent Mino Raiola pocketed a reported £41m in fees from both clubs - would see Pogba paying his agent, rather than the clubs.

I'll never understand why they deregulated football agents and/or why they are tolerated?

The clubs could easily get together and comprise a list of ne'er-do-well agents but maybe then fear of missing out and/or other clubs/managers being as backhanded as some of the agents mean that could never happen?

Another swiz is players do not contribute to their union the pfa! Tv money gives it x ammount and Mr Taylor gets around 2m to be head of it!!!

Good that's how it should be... the payer is employing the agent to act on their behalf - much like when you hire a solicitor and you have to pay their fees!

Taylor is a joke figure, never answers any difficult questions when interviewed, talks complete nonsense and quite frankly is an embarrassment

Simple. Ban agents completely. FIFA and UEFA have the power to do this. Wages and agents fees have become unsustainable. If any player does not like earning 20K per week them tell them to go and get a job in a factory. SKY is totally responsible for the finances in football. Would love to see what would happen if SKY pulled out of football. None of this will happen because of all the greedy fat cays in football.

It's costing hundreds of millions to have agents and it's going out of the game much better to stay with players or club, at end day it will be up to players then to decide where they go not the agents who do it for self greed.
