The extraordinary Spanish media attack on Gareth Bale's commitment to Wales and the 'problems' he's caused Real Madrid -

Thursday 11th October 2018

Gareth Bale has joined up with the Wales squad and some people are not happy about it.

Gareth Bale has become the subject of a bizarre blast in the Spanish media who claim he is seemingly more committed to Wales than Real Madrid.

Bale is with Wales for Thursday night's Principality Stadium clash with Spain, although he seems certain to sit out the fixture after recent injury problems .

Madrid-based newspaper AS say Bale's desire to play in the big game has 'left noses out of joint at the Bernabeu.' The newspaper reckon Real have formally demanded Wales boss Ryan Giggs does not pick Bale and instead holds him back for next week's Nations League clash with Ireland.

Giggs says the Ireland match takes priority anyway, with points at stake, although he concedes every member of his squad wants to feature in the glamour game with Spain.

Bale will receive a golden boot on the Principality Stadium pitch before the match in recognition of breaking Ian Rush's Wales scoring record.

In a strongly-worded article, AS list dilemmas they claim successive Real managers have had with the Wales talisman.

Bale was substituted at half-time of Real's Madrid derby with Atletico with a groin problem, missed their Uefa Champions League defeat to CSKA Moscow and asked to come off with 20 minutes to go of the 1-0 La Liga loss to Alavés. The results have left coach Julen Lopetegui in danger of the sack.

Real officials say Bale has muscle fatigue, as opposed to an injury, prompting AS to write: "Bale is again at the centre of controversy, and it's by no means a new scenario. He has travelled to Wales to join up with his national team, and wants to play against Spain - a state of affairs which has left noses out of joint at the Bernabeu."

Gareth Bale is tackled by Saul Niguez during the Madrid derby, but won't lock horns with the Atletico and Spain midfielder at the Principality Stadium
The newspaper go on to claim: "With Cristiano Ronaldo gone, eyes are on Bale to spearhead the new Real Madrid, but his frequent fitness issues and his seemingly greater devotion to country than to club have left the European champions, and their new coach, exposed."

Bale, of course, is intensely committed to the Wales cause which can be seen every time he pulls on the famous red shirt.

But he is also totally dedicated to Real Madrid at club level, having stayed with the club despite troubled times and a mountain of interest from other clubs keen to sign him. His commitment to Real should not be in question.

However AS go through each of Bale's managers, Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez, Zinedine Zidane and Lopetegui, and write that they have each had issues.

They say Benitez' decision to give Bale the 10 role and make him 'the teacher's pet distanced him from the rest of the squad.'

Zidane left Bale out of the Champions League final and AS say Lopetegui is hindered by the Welshman's injury, writing 'it would become an affront to the club and coach if Bale were to ignore his employers and play against Spain."

Ironically, the article was published shortly Giggs held his pre-match Press conference at the Principality Stadium where he admitted to being resigned to his talisman missing the match.

Wales had planned to give Bale as much time as possible to prove his fitness for the game, but Giggs said: "He's extremely doubtful for tomorrow. He's got a little bit of muscle fatigue from the weekend. We're just monitoring it daily. We'll give him every chance for Tuesday.

RYAN GIGGS:

"We just want what's best for Gareth, for the team, and for Real Madrid aswell.

"He feels good, but we just have to weigh up the risk. We'll take no chances.

"The medical team are constantly in dialogue with Real Madrid, like we are with every team."

Since he’s been at RM he’s spent more time on the recovery table than he has playing..... yet he’s more commutes to Wales..... seems to me that he’s fit for most welsh matches but all his injuries happen when training/playing for RM.... that shows his commitment....

If there was an issue with him playing for Wales his club manager would block him from going, just like NW did with Gunners last international break

Don't think a club manager can actually block a player from joining up with his national side, just apply pressure if there is an injury concern. Unless the rules have changed recently.

SAF did it numerous times and NW blocked Gunners going in September

I'm talking about the actual rules, not the practice.

Have a look at FIFA.com, 'release of players for national association...'. Remember Gerard bring injured, and Fabio Capello insisting that Liverpool release him to be assessed by the England medical team. Benitez was not happy, but had to let him go. In the event, the England doctors agreed, and he was released from international duty. Usually, common sense prevails, but not always. Hence these club v country arguments. But the national association can insist on assessing an injury.

Maybe Giggs could have a word with him about what commitment means
