When does the transfer window open?

Like last January, the window in England and Scotland will open at one minute past midnight on January 1.

When does the transfer window close?

Deadline Day is January 31 and the window will close at 11pm.

Any new rules for Premier League clubs?

Premier League clubs have agreed that no new players registered at the start of the window will be eligible to play in Matchweek 21, between January 1-3, so you may have to wait to see your new signing in action.

What about the other countries’ leagues?

The window in France and Germany familiarly runs from January 1-31, but it opens a day later - on January 2 - in Spain. Clubs have less time to do deals in Italy - the window there opens on January 3 and closes on January 18.

Cardiff City are ready to table an offer for midfielder Adrien Tameze but face competition from Premier League rivals Watford and Burnley, according to reports.

OGC Nice star Tameze is a £10million target for the Bluebirds, claim respected French sports newspaper L'Equipe.

The 24-year-old is a powerful defensive midfielder, who can play in a number of different positions including attacking midfield and right-back, and is also reportedly of interest to Serie A side Atalanta.

Cardiff have been scouring the French market ahead of a January spending spree that Neil Warnock hopes will keep his side afloat in the Premier League.

The Bluebirds are keen on Nantes striker Emiliano Sala, among other Ligue 1 targets.

But reports claim Tameze isn't believed to be too keen on leaving France in January despite the widespread interest in his services.

It remains to be seen whether Cardiff can snare his signature before the window's deadline at the end of this month.

Cardiff City and Burnley battling to sign West Brom winger Matt Phillips - reports

The winger has been in fine form for West Brom so far this season

02/01/19

Cardiff City are battling it out with Burnley to sign Matt Phillips from West Brom, according to reports.

Neil Warnock has made no secret of his desire to bolster the Bluebirds' squad this month in a bid to strengthen his side's hopes of staying in the Premier League.

And our colleagues at the Mirror have reported that Phillips is one of their January targets.

They claim that Phillips, who can also operate as a wing-back, is on Warnock's wish list due to the fact that the Bluebirds look set to miss out on signing Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne.

The Bluebirds are well stocked on the wings given that they have Junior Hoilett, Josh Murphy, Kadeem Harris and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing in their ranks.

Phillips has netted five times in 22 Championship appearances for the Baggies so far this term.

The 27-year-old has 18 months left to run on his current contract with Darren Moore's side, although it's been reported that they are keen to retain his services.

Phillips' previous clubs include Queens Park Rangers, Blackpool, Sheffield United and Wycombe Wanderers.

Cardiff City transfer digest

The latest Cardiff City transfer news from January 3

Bournemouth have been linked with a move for Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne.

Neil Warnock last month confirmed the right-back is on his January wish-list, but the Daily Mail have reported that Eddie Howe's side are interested in taking the defender to the Vitality Stadium on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign.

The 27-year-old - who worked with Warnock at Crystal Palace - joined the Reds from Southampton in July 2015 but he has struggled with injuries during his time on Merseyside.

He has featured only five times in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp's side so far this term while his current contract at Anfield runs until 2020.

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne

Meanwhile, the Bluebirds have been linked with a swoop for Anderlecht striker Ivan Santini.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bluebirds have made a bid of five million euros for the 29-year-old, who has scored 11 goals in 16 games for the Belgian club this season.

The 6ft 3in frontman was named in Croatia's preliminary World Cup squad, but didn't make the final 23.

Santini - who has won four caps for his country - still has two-and-a-half years left to run on his contract with Anderlecht.

Elsewhere, Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has urged Cardiff City not to break Lee Tomlin’s heart.

Tomlin is waiting on Cardiff City to sign off a loan deal to the Posh and Fry has urged the Bluebirds to sort out a contractual wangle with the 29-year-old, which Fry says has become “political”, so he can play football again.

"Lee only wants to play for Posh. He wants to enjoy his football again. It’s not about money which is true as we won’t be paying anywhere near what he is getting at Cardiff," Fry told Peterborough Today.

"He’s trained well for us. He is getting fitter and he wants to be loved again. He’s having some personal issues and he wants to get away from Cardiff and start afresh.

"I am waiting for a call from Cardiff to get this deal done and I hope it happens for our sake and for Lee’s sake. He would be broken-hearted if it didn’t happen.

Lee Tomlin is among those who could leave Cardiff City on loan this month
"What a player he would be for us if he’s anywhere near his best, but we are also trying to get other players in, preferably ones who aren’t cup-tied.

"There could be three here by the weekend and all would be ready to play at Middlesbrough if required."

Tomlin scored once in 16 appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds last term before being sent to Nottingham Forest on loan.

He has not featured under Neil Warnock this season having been left out of Cardiff's 25-man Premier League squad.
