Everything Neil Warnock said on Huddersfield match, team news, Emiliano Sala, Adrien Tameze and transfers :thumbright: :bluebird:

Friday 10th January 2019

Neil Warnock confirms Cardiff City FC frustration in the January transfer window with typically colourful description.

NEIL WARNOCK:

“It’s like climbing a mountain with butter on your hands. One day you think you are almost there and then you slide back down.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Huddersfield boss David Wagner said this is a must-win. Do you agree?

"I don’t think so, but I understand David’s sentiments. When you’re near the bottom of the table all games are must-win really.
Is Wagner being hard on himself?"

Why is it so hard to buy in January?

Warnock says:

"Everyone’s trying to get the best deal."
"Clubs are all after the same players."
"I would imagine it will go all the way to deadline day."

NEIL WARNOCK:

Is the Emiliano Sala deal still alive?

"Not really. It’s very up in the air in the moment. There’s a number of players we’re looking at, especially in the French market. But nothing concrete at all."
"I spoke to the owner and his son. They’ve got one or two decent players there!"

NEIL WARNOCK:

Team news:

"We’ve got a few players with knocks. Most of them trained yesterday, so we’ll have to wait and see. Nothing concrete on that.
Kenneth’s looking sharp. He starts full-time training next week. His eyes are bright and it’s nice to see. He’s worked really hard to get back. It was disappointing to lose him on the Man United."
"He’ll be struggling to get back for next weekend. He might get on the bench."

On Zohore and transfer plans, Warnock said:

"I’d still like another striker because something like this might happen again. We’re very thin on the ground in that area and we need to get more goals into the team."

NEIL WARNOCK:

' I’m not really looking at wide players'

Earlier this week, we reported how Cardiff City’s first deal of the January transfer window had collapsed after Cardiff pulled out of negotiations over Adrien Tameze on Tuesday night despite agreeing a fee of £10million.

Speaking about Tameze this morning, Warnock said:

“We looked at him, but at the moment it’s not a goer.”

And former Tottenham winger Clinton N’Jie?

"It’s one of many we’ve looked at but I’m not really looking at wide players. That’s the least of our worries really."

NEIL WARNOCK:

On Huddersfield staying up last season:

"It was an amazing achievement. I thought Wagner should have had manager of the year.
Unless you’re involved in a club like that you can’t really describe what it’s like. Dean Hoyle’s a super chairman."

"He’s backed his manager, which is great. You can see how disappointed he is because they’ve played really well in some games."

"That’s the frustrating thing in the Premier League. You look at how we did against Burnley and Arsenal.
But they don’t need five or six chances to score. But it was a great achievement and they’re a great club."

"Our fans have been incredible and we need them to continue to back us"

"They just need to keep supporting us like they have been. With their incredible backing, which is as good as anything I've seen in football, there's no reason why we can't get another 18 points from our remaining matches - even with the players we've already got here."

"The dressing room helps us with the spirit we’ve got. You can’t change 20 players, you change the manager as Forest have done.
You know what game you’re in. The easiest thing is to get rid of the manager. Does that always solve the problem? Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn’t."

"But I can’t say that my lads have let me down effort-wise. We’re still in that catching up business really. We’re still a window behind because we’ve moved so quickly."

"If we can’t get any players then we have to move on and use the lads that are here."

"The window is a bit like climbing a mountain with butter on your hands. You get your hopes up and say ‘yes that’s a done deal’ and then the next day it’s not a done deal."

NEIL WARNOCK:

The mental preparation for Huddersfield clash

The Cardiff City manager says:

"I think it’s the same for managers and staff."

"When you approach teams like Man City you try to keep the score down with the way they’re playing. But any game against anyone outside the top six is a winnable game."
"We’ve got to take more of our chances. We’ve slipped back on that in the last few weeks. We had so many opportunities in the cup match and didn’t take one of them."

"Strikers, are the ones we've looked at really better than Kenneth Zohore, if we can get him fully fit and firing?"

"We need Ken fit and he starts again on Monday," said Warnock. "I don't think he'll be available for Newcastle on Saturday week, but we then have 10 days and hopefully he'll figure at Arsenal.

"It's important we get Ken back. We've been looking at lots of strikers who have been recommended to us in this transfer window. But are any of them really better than a fully fit Kenneth Zohore?"

NEIL WARNOCK:

Would you get rid of the January transfer window?

Warnock’s answer:

'I would this year. I can’t see me doing another January window if I’m honest.'

'It’s tough before the window and it’s even tougher in the window. Mehmet [Dalman] and Ken [Choo] are finding it just as difficult because they’ve been trying their best. We’re still optimistic but it’s a difficult time.'

NEIL WARNOCK:

'I don’t want players to just come for the money'

Was Tameze close?

"We’ve been close with one or two players
But one of those deals could be back on. I don’t think I can say anything to you until someone has signed a contract."

"At the same time they’re speaking to me, agents are offering them to five or six other clubs. I don’t want players to just come for the money.
We’re a great club with a great fanbase. If we’ve got to get on with what we’ve got, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it."

Sala deal not dead?

"Nothing’s completely off the agenda. Quite a few things will have to change for it to be back on."

"We’ve got five targets to get one striker whereas last week we only had three.
So there’s a few more opportunities, but it’s a case of getting one over the line."

There’s so much to talk about. We just have to be patient. All of us."

David Wagner on Cardiff clash

Huddersfield boss David Wagner has been speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s clash with Cardiff, a game he admits is a ‘must-win’ for his side.

DAVID WAGNER:

“This is a very important game for us, a game we have to win."
“We have to be at our against Cardiff City to win.
“It’s all about standing up.
“Standing up and taking responsibility for everything you can influence. “If everyone can give the individual energy and responsibility, then we can have enough.
“The reality at the minute is that I’m not happy because we and I haven’t delivered what we expect.
“I and we have to turn this.”

So far Neil Warnock has managed to move 3 Cardiff players this January.

Lee Tomlin on loan to Peterborough.

Gary Madine on loan to Sheffield United.

The latest player Anthony Pilkington who City did a deal with and agreed to let him go then by mutual consent where Pilks signed for 18months to Wigan Athletic.

'Madine's done some daft things in the past' - Sheffield United boss

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder says what Gary Madine has done in joining the club has got “to be admired and supported”.

It was announced this week that the former Bolton striker will move on loan from Cardiff City to Bramall Lane until the end of the season after a goalless 12 months in the Welsh capital.

The move means 28-year-old Madine joins up with the fierce rivals of his former club Sheffield Wednesday, who he played for between 2011 and 2015 before a move to Bolton Wanderers.

Wilder has given him his backing, and says Madine “could have taken the easy way out and joined another club”.

The Yorkshire Post report Wilder said:

“I’ve made the decision, and it’s my decision. I understand it might not be backed fully, but people must look at the bigger picture with what we’re trying to achieve, and Gary helps that."

“He’s had a couple of promotions with Cardiff and Bolton and adds to our forward line, gives us something different in the second part of the season and will play a part in us improving, going forward."

“Gary wanted to come. He had the b**** to do it, he could have taken the easy way out and joined another club."

“That’s got to be admired and supported. I think the majority of our punters are really fair and understand that what’s gone off in the past, he’s played at the other side of the city, he’s done some daft things in the past."

“But to want to come to the football club and play, he gets my support, and I’d like to think the majority of our support."
“We have to trust that Gary is going to be good for the football club. There are five or six clubs in this division who would have taken him, two or three in and around us.”

Is the Emiliano Sala deal still alive?

Warnock gives us an update on the situation with Nantes player Emiliano Sala.

"Not really. It’s very up in the air in the moment. There’s a number of players we’re looking at, especially in the French market. But nothing concrete at all."
"I spoke to the owner and his son. They’ve got one or two decent players there!"

The problem?

"I want to keep that between us. I don’t want to go into details on that. He’s one of a number of players we were looking at. The game the other night, even though he was playing there were two or three others we were looking at.'

'Anything can happen. I’ve not written anything off, but I’m not optimistic about anything. There’s nothing concrete with anybody. Things change all the time. The January window is the worst ever window."

"I’ve had one player represented by five different agents. Who do we deal with? That’s what brings agents a bad reputation. You just don’t know what you’re dealing with."

Danny Ward doubtful for Huddersfield

NEIL WARNOCK:

On Ward, Warnock said:

"He’s seen a neurosurgeon. He seems okay but I can’t say too much on it."

"I doubt he’ll be fit for tomorrow. It gives others an opportunity."

"If he’s not alright tomorrow he’ll probably be okay for next week."

The biggest frustration so far?

Asked what his biggest frustration with the window so far has been, Warnock says:

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I know I got criticism for Liverpool and Clyne. But all I wanted was a phone call."

"If I had a choice between Bournemouth and Cardiff I probably would’ve made the same decision.
I don’t blame him for going there at all. They’re a great club."

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We’ve got something to grasp"

In terms of looking ahead to the second half of the season, Warnock said:

"I’m looking forward to it. The second half of the season, we’ve got something to grasp. We know how difficult it’s going to be. We’re not going to jeopardise the club financially.
So don’t get too down if something doesn’t happen."

And on Rhys Healey:

"He’ll probably be involved at the weekend. He can only go back to MK. He’s looked sharp in training. You know what you get with him. He’ll cause problems."

Neil Warnock confirms Cardiff City FC frustration in the January transfer window with typically colourful description.

“It’s like climbing a mountain with butter on your hands. One day you think you are almost there and then you slide back down.”
