SICK SOUTHAMPTON FANS MOCK EMILIANO SALA

Sat Feb 09, 2019 7:28 pm

UPDATED: Monday 11th February 2019

TWO SOUTHAMPTON FANS HAVE BEEN ARRESTED & CHARGED.

Two Southampton fans detained by police after 'mocking Emiliano Sala with sick gesture'

A pair of Southampton fans were detained by police after appearing to mock the tragic death of Emiliano Sala during Cardiff's victory at St Mary's.

The Bluebirds were playing their first fixture since Sala's body was formally identified after it had been recovered from the wreckage of the Piper Malibu plane he had been flying in at St Mary's on Saturday.

Striker Sala disappeared over the English Channel as he flew from Nantes to Cardiff after securing a club record £15million switch.

Both Cardiff and Saints held a minute's silence before the match and wore black armbands in tribute to Sala.

But two Saints fans were spotted making airplane gestures during the game in reference to the appalling disaster.

UPDATED:

Etheridge: help find the man doing the plane gesture and the man in the red top. The two mocked Emiliano Sala’s death for the time before they were escorted.

No place in football for this kind of behaviour.

Southampton fan appears to mock Emiliano Sala's death in sick plane gesture to Cardiff City fans
By Tom Coleman

The video footage has sparked considerable anger

Video footage has emerged tonight appearing to show a Southampton fan taunting Cardiff City supporters about the death of Emiliano Sala.

The incident, which was caught on video by a Cardiff fan during Saturday's game, appears to show the fan making an aeroplane gesture towards the 3,000 Cardiff City fans in the packed away end at St Mary's - seemingly making reference to the tragic death of the Argentine striker.

He then appears to be approached by a steward before the video cuts out. It's not clear what happened next.

We have removed the audio from the video due to strong language from infuriated Cardiff supporters who witnessed what happened.

The incident has sparked an angry reaction from City fans, including Welsh AM Neil McEvoy, who's called on the club to take action.

He tweeted: "Will this specimen be banned from your ground? I would like a reply".

Southampton are understood to be aware of the incident and a statement from the club is expected soon.

Honestly, why even pay attention to this? Across every football club, any forum or Twitter account there is nothing but sympathy and football fans paying reapec. Don't know why we even bother with things like this..

Just shows ignorance, lack of class, brainpower, and worse still a sign of the pond life in the world today. Lets not forget most of the Southampton fans were great.

A handful of idiotic fans amongst 30,000 respectful ones. Doesn't justify it or make it right but every club in the country has some daft cunts following them.

You can tell just by the look of the guy in the video that he's one of those who all his mates laugh at him rather than with him.

I read that they have been identified, and police have taken their details. I should think they face a fine and a nice long ban from future matches.

I seen one guy doing a swimming gesture, but generally speaking the Southampton fans were very respectful, especially during the minutes silence and the stewards showed a touch of class by wearing the daffodil in memory of Emiliano.

Oh dear they've been caught red handed. I bet their families will be so proud of them as well as their employers. Absolute SCUM OF THE EARTH.

Incredible pondlife. Chuck the twats in a room with Sala’s family for a few hours, that would sort them.... :old:

No, but you know it's going to happen . Unfortunately a lot of football fans are scum and if they're not slashing people with Stanley knives they'll be doing this stuff. They're a minority but they're in there and it's pointless to get too upset by that.

As someone said, the vast majority of other fans have been great towards the Club and Emiliano.

Don't let these idiots affect you.

Southampton vow to ban fans who made 'plane gestures'. Southampton Football Club can confirm that two fans were detained and had their details taken by police during the match.

Yes, to be fair you did! :thumbright:

Southampton FC have stated two arrests were made in connection with the incident and they are to ban two supporters for their actions during the game. The club condemned them for their actions

In other news, the Premier League said that there was a possibility of a points deduction for the Saints as punishment for their 'fans' actions; but that was soon rescinded when they realised The Saints had already given 6 points to Cardiff this season! ;)

“I don’t think you can expect that from anyone with any common sense of decency, only this low life individual was the exception, mostly away teams have showed deepest respect to Cardiff City football club during our awful tradgedy of losing our player Emiliano Sala. I hope that fan was ejected and banned for inciting hate.

We were standing right by the fence next to the Saints fans and a few of them did it on a couple of occassions especially when the winner went in, I didn't even realise they were doing the aeroplane thing with their arms until all this has blown up and I don't think that others around me did, as no one reacted to it.

Totally out of order, as has been said every club has one. Let’s not be whiter than white though, the singing of Land of my Fathers about Swansea fans and child abuse is equally offensive to anybody who has suffered, and should be too all.
