Emiliano Sala’s father Horacio dies suddenly in Argentina, three months after plane crash that took his son

Friday 26th April 2019

The former truck driver is understood to have died from a heart attack in the night

Horacio Sala, the father of Emiliano, has died of a heart attack three months after his son's tragic plane crash .

The news was confirmed by Julio Muller, a local politician, who told local media that Sala had passed away in the night and couldn't be saved by paramedics.

"2019 doesn't let up in shocking us with news in this town," Muller said.

"At 5 o'clock in the morning, the lady, his wife, rang me and she was very upset.

"The doctors were there but when I arrived at their home, he had already died."

Emiliano Sala, Horacio's son, died tragically in January when a plane he was flying on with pilot David Ibbotson crashed in the English Channel en route from Nantes to Cardiff.

Thousands of people turned out to the 28-year-old's funeral in his hometown of Progreso, including Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock.

Emiliano Sala's father dies three months after Cardiff City footballer killed in plane crash

Friday 26th April 2019

Horacio Sala, father of Argentine soccer player Emiliano Sala, has died

The father of tragic Cardiff City footballer Emiliano Sala has died three months after his son was killed in a plane crash.

Horacio Sala is reported to have suffered a heart attack on Friday morning.

The news was confirmed by Julio Muller, a local politician, who told Argentinian media paramedics tried to save his life but were unsuccessful.

"2019 doesn't let up in shocking us with news in this town," Muller said.

"At 5 o'clock in the morning, the lady, his wife, rang me and she was very upset.

"The doctors were there but when I arrived at their home, he had already died."

Emiliano Sala was killed in January after the plane he was travelling in crashed into the English Channel.

Cardiff City this week announced changes to player travel arrangements following the tragedy, while an investigation into the crash continues.

The club remain locked in a dispute with French club Nantes over the £15m transfer fee for Sala, which is yet to be paid. You can read the full details of that here.

Horacio Sala led thousands of mourners who turned out to pay their respects at his son's funeral in his hometown of Progreso in February.

Sala's body was pulled from the wreckage more than two weeks after the plane disappeared. Pilot David Ibbotson remains unaccounted for.

R.I.P SO SAD NEWS.

Sky News has also learned that one of Emiliano Sala's best friends died last week in a car crash, aged 24. #Sala played football with Sebastian Rabellino at the local club San Martin de Progreso. It's been a tough 2019 for the very small town of Progreso.
