I personally think we are too poor, too small and too stupid. Of course another country should run our affairs

Independence would be disastrous for Wales. It would turn us into the Albania of the UK. Welsh assembly government cannot even sort out a decent road into Wales, can you imaging what would happen if they took up the reins of government for the whole country. Plaid trying to slip independence in on the back of anti Brexit feeling is disgraceful, and dishonest; they seem to have conveniently forgotten the Welsh electorate voted for Brexit.
I am very patriotic about being Welsh, but, as has been well put, you don't have to be a nationalist to be a patriot.

What would the point be?

Seriously.

What would independence give us that we do not have or really need?

Personally in this day an age I am hardly downtrodden and abused by English overlords. I am, free to move to England should I wish with no issues being Welsh. I have representation in Westminster albeit by someone I did not vote for but I doubt that would change if we were independent only worsen ... hint... I have never and would never vote for socialist or social democracy candidates.

As a country we do very well out of the union. Due to our high level of welfare spending the English tax payer particularly the London tax payer, subsidises us a great deal. Rather than us wanting independence one has to ask why the English even want to keep us!

I hate all this division people try to sew. I am proud to be Welsh but I am also proud to be British. I fully identify as both and if that annoys some then frankly tough shit.

We have issues absolutely. And yes more could be done politically with reference to getting more for the country. But personally I think that all comes down to the fact on the whole we keep electing muppets at westminster and the assembly≥ Perhaps if we stopped voting for the same people over and over or forced them to do their jobs of fighting for us maybe things would change more. But we are hardly living in 3rd world conditions

Welsh independence is like Scottish independence - it'll never happen because it can't - monetarily or socially.

Both have 'local country level' leaders who crave some form of independence yet want to stay tied to the yoke of the EU.

Thats not independence in any sense of the word.

Study history ,economics and demographics.
It's nonsense. Wales never has been a country, just a region outside central administration for a few centuries here and there.
It has no potential income or rescources to support an economy and its people are as English as Welsh by blood.
Ideas to the contrary are the fruits of strange romantic or political fantasies and I'm afraid that anyone who's been seduced by them should think again.

By the way, if Wales ever did go independent,( which it can't in reality for the reasons I stated), you could certainly forget the idea of running a competitive football club because there would t be enough money for food, never mind strikers

Fair comment there and based on the facts not the fantasy of the self-agenda laden nationalists :thumbright:

I have no issues with Plaid in the 'local' elections; they fight for 'local' issues and do a good job. However, any thoughts they have of running an 'independent' Wales would be scary, if it weren't for its extreme unlikelihood

I think you’ll find that Wales is almost as poor as Albania now! Sa a mater of interest, Wales is the 5th largest producer of electricity in the world, but of course we don’t get a penny for it and then of course there our water the oil of the future...

Certainly is rather wasted now. We need to elect politicians who care about Wales and bow to their master in London. You know what to do

Malta, Iceland, Luxembourg, Latvia, Estonia, Slovakia, Monaco, Ireland...small independent nations doing just fine. Just think how rich we could become selling our electricity and water to the world, oh and possibly England if they pay up!

Maybe you should check the minimum and average wage in the country’s you claim are doing just fine (Monaco is not a country by the way it’s a principality) Just like the Scots Natz you blame England for all your problems.

SIR JIMMY SCHOULAR

we could be independent if we really wanted to just the same as ireland
We have natural resources like water which is supplied to a lot of englands regions, but we have never been in charge of our resources,
Water and coal, have been run and controlled by westminster.
The crying shame was after the coal mines where shut no money was pumped into the welsh valleys
but regions in england yorkshire and Nottinghamshire money was pumped into those regions,
the honda factory and jcb where all built there to help the work force ,and concidering wales supplied most of the coal across the uk you would have thought an equal share would have come to wales.
But there was political dealings wales miners been the last out on strike and the nothern miners doing deals with the goverment had the investment, if they went back to work.
As regards the bigger picture of independence smaller countries than us manage, finland, iceland, and as i mentioned across the water ireland.

Wales by the way has never agreed to be run by england, scotland has hence the union flag, neither have we been taken over or conquered.

I love my country with a passion
But i have lots of english and ,scottish friends so i am not anti uk.

Ever wonder why we are so poor? Maybe its because of Westminster? Do you really think a parliament that is 90% English has the Welsh economy at the forefront of its decisions? If you do, you haven’t been paying attention to the last 30 years

We’ll get thrown under the bus every single time

i was' nt saying we could be using coal today it was about we never made as much money in the past with coal, as we could have if we held the purse strings and where independent before coal came about we as a country could have been very rich.

I was talking about the way westminster picks and chooses which region gets a share , and wales does'nt.
