NEIL WARNOCK:

Postby Forever Blue » Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:34 pm

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock:

"I thought we showed a lot of character. We had five players making debuts and had nervous characters before the game but I thought we really grew into it.

"We needed a goal to dampen Luton's enthusiasm and we had enough chances to make it comfortable.

"They took their chance in the second half and made it difficult for us, but credit to us, we didn't sulk. Junior came on and delivered a great ball and it was nice to see Isaac come on and finish."

NEIL WARNOCK:

"You can't wish for a better start," Warnock said after the win, "I don't know how long he was on the pitch for. But he's got so many strings to his bow that it was a no-brainer really (to sign him).

"They want to bring in a lot of continental players at Birmingham and I thought that was a great opportunity for us.

"His injury probably put people off (signing him), but I'm delighted. A lovely lad as well. So it couldn't have worked out better.

"He will have a fantastic weekend. He's had so much bad luck over the last 18 months, he deserves a weekend like this."

Vassell now has as many goals for Cardiff City in three days as he did in two years at Birmingham. Warnock, however, urged him to build on this dream start to life in the Welsh capital.

"I just feel there's something in him," Warnock added. "He's had a bad injury, which anybody can have, but he has still got a lot to learn and a lot to prove."

I think the manager got out of jail a bit yesterday to be honest.

Would have liked to see us trying to finish a very limited Luton off with more goals but seemed as if we were settling for 1-0 with still about 20 mins to go.

Even when we had throw ins near their penalty area neither Flint or Morrison were going up for them and it really looked as if we were just trying to close out the game from about the 70th minute onwards.

It was the same sort of conservative performance that cost us so dearly at Fulham last season.

Having said that it was two attacking substitutes that combined to win us the game - just another reason why Warnock has been so successful at this level over so many years and knows better than me!

Lets hope so but when playing for Luton in the old fourth division he scored 10 goals in 42 league matches and 1 in 23 for Birmingham in the championship. Great start yesterday of course but he has not been a goal machine in the past. Maybe Warnock can get the best out of him.

Still has something to prove but certainly looks a decent back up for Glatzel.
