Travel quarantine rules

Postby thomasblue » Mon May 11, 2020 6:35 am

If you arrive by airplane you have to go into quarantine for two weeks on arrival meaning for a two week holiday you have to take a month off work.

BUT

The exception is the Eurotunnel which from today coupled with France relaxing lockdown rules is open for business meaning prices of holidays to France just went through the roof

Or you could drive to Paris via Eurotunnel and fly anywhere in Europe to go on holiday to bypass the quarantine

No health checks on arrivals by Train either by the look of it

That sounds ridiculous, there is no way people should be able to find a work around, stop people coming in and out until a vaccine!

The Eurotunnel is open without quarantine. It only applies to airports.
So anybody who wants a foreign holiday will have to travel to France or book a extra two weeks off

You say you go in to quarantine but there’s no centre to go into at the airport or anything.
It’s a case of getting from Heathrow or wherever and being trusted to get home and isolating there.

So it’s a case of getting public transport home from the airport or driving and stopping at the services etc. Not ideal or structured but based on trust.

Anyone who arrives at the airport has to give a forwarding address - name - etc ..
If they do not have an address they are staying at - then they go to some place provided by this country.
Then if a spot check is done and they are not at the place given - They will be fined .

Hopes of a French summer holiday dwindle

In case you missed the news yesterday, the UK government has confirmed that everyone, including the French, will have to self-isolate for 14 days when arriving in the UK.

This dampens hopes that UK/France holidays could have been on the cards once the FCO lifts its travel warning.

I just had a squint at the Eurostar site, picked a random date in June for £57 to Paris. Seems that you must have the correct documentation to justify your visit to the French authorities. If not they'll fine you. Face masks compulsory.

All those arriving will need to tell officials where they will be staying, whether it is with family, friends or in rented accommodation.

If this does not meet the “necessary requirements”, people will be required to self-isolate in facilities arranged by the government.

So what will be required of people going into self-isolation?

People will be expected to travel by car, where possible, and not use public transport
They should not leave their residence for 14 days
They should not go to work, school or visit public areas
They should not have friends or family to stay or visit, except to provide essential support
They should not go out to shop where they can rely on others.
They will be encouraged to download the NHS Covid-19 app at the border

France to retaliate over British quarantine measures

They may have been looking forward to summer in the Dordogne or the Cote D'Azur after the rigours of lockdown at home, but it now looks as if British travellers to France will have to spend a good part of any holiday staring at four walls, Patrick Sawer reports

France has threatened to retaliate in kind after Britain announced a two-week quarantine for all new arrivals to the UK, including the French.

The French government has said it “regretted” Britain's decision to introduce a 14-day quarantine for all travellers into the country from June 8 and said that it “stood ready” to impose reciprocal measures.
